I offer two images of two visitors to the CrabAppleLane backyard this afternoon. Couldn't get them in the same frame. The top one was taken from my kitchen through my back door's windows. The bottom one was taken from my back deck. I believe them to be gray foxes and they are probably a mating pair. These are also probably the largest foxes I've ever seen. Quite a treat.

CrabAppleLane Backyard Visitors - December 13, 2008
Speaking of wildlife, our buff-bellied hummingbird is still here chattering away most of the day in spite of the pretty heavy snowfall we had Thursday. Patsy has named her Buffy, the nectar slayer. I like Buffy OK but I kinda groan at the other part.
Quote of the Day
I don't want to be photographed in my old age. I feel the same way with old movie stars. It makes me sad. We want to remember them when they were young.

Blog of the day here.
Quote from said blog: "It seems like every time we go to Georgia for a forecast, there is pending doom just around the corner. This time in Albany, however... nope, wait. Yep. Pending doom."

Yep, those are gray foxes. We had at least one here when we first moved in, but it headed deeper into the woods once it realized that we'd be here on a regular basis. Wish I'd had a camera then! Congrats to you.
I've seen a couple of red foxes around her -- on the bike path and running past some houses -- but never a gray one.
I'm pretty sure I saw a wolf on the side of the road on my recent trip to Canada. He was napping.
Those foxes look very healthy. Christina and I saw a fox coming home from Janine's a few years ago and he looked like a skeleton crossing the highway, on the way to a nearby dumpster. What are they after in your backyard? Maybe some dogfood the racoons didn't get to? And who do you think would win in a fight? The racoons are heavier and just as fierce, but the fox is more into killing it seems to me. Well, they probably avoid one another and turn around if they meet up on the path.
Thanks for the confirmation, Lana. These weren't particularly shy.
We have red foxes here, too, delmer, but I have never seen a wolf in the wild. Good for you. The red foxes here are quite a bit smaller than the gray ones and also seem to be quite a bit more playful. Always running or jumping. These two just wandered into the yard.
Yes, they look very healthy to me, too, Mom. Patsy throws whole corn in this area and I imagine they were eating that. We don't do dog food any more and we're not feeding the raccoons regularly. I can't imagine foxes and raccoons fighting over anything. I doubt either one could take a meal from the other.
