Casey the kitten
That table is part of a five-piece set of overpriced pecan furniture that we bought from Kirschman's right after we got married. It was the square end table pictured above, a hexagonal end table, a desk, and two shelf units. All of it was damaged when our ceiling caved in. Our pipes had burst one day after a hard freeze. So overpriced was this furniture that our homeowner's insurance, after seeing the receipt, thought it better to restore all of it at considerable expense rather than pay us replacement cost. We still have all of it but we hate it now. We're going to someday bring it all to Habitat for Humanity but we'll have to figure out what we're going to do with the things we're storing in them.
Do you recognize any of the albums? Those with a FlickR account can see more in the original size. I only recognize about 4 of them. I'll reveal my somewhat uncertain answers below the jump.
Via the BOTD, I learned the Library of Congress has a FlickR page. Awesome. I'm there.
No idea what book Ambrose was talking about in the QOTD but I know I've read more than my share of books like that. I know how I will describe them from this point forward.
Quote of the Day
The covers of this book are too far apart.
Ambrose BierceBlog of the day here.
Quote from said blog: "But this really takes the cake: the Library of Congress has just created a Flickr page, on which they've posted nearly 2,000 color slides -- many of them hauntingly beautiful."

Working left to right: I admit I have a huge advantage here because I know what albums I have. I think Boston's Don't Look Back is the prominent red and blue album below her tail. This is their second album. It's pretty good but not as good as their debut album. CD jackets don't always have the same hue as their vinyl counterparts. Not really sure why record companies or artists do that.

I believe UFO's Strangers in the Night is the prominent red and white album right where her gray fur starts. It's a live double album. It's got a very rousing version of Rock Bottom but it's mostly poorly recorded and sounds more like a bootleg than a professionally produced album. It got rave reviews but I found it very disappointing. Deep Purple's Made in Japan, recorded 6 or 7 years earlier, is still the standard for all live albums.

The wide one right below her right front paw is Springsteen Live and is the only one here I am positive of. It's wide because it's a 5-record box set. I don't remember how much it cost but it was a record at the time.

I think the orange one to the far right is The Allman Brothers' The Road Goes On Forever. It is a double album greatest hits collection. It was a Christmas gift from a friend that I haven't seen in a long, long time. He was a big Allman Brothers fan. He gave me another album, too, but I can't remember what it was. Maybe Eat a Peach but I seem to remember buying that one, myself, but maybe I'm thinking of the CD.

I tried, but no luck on the album guesses. Love the QOTD.
I've looked at those albums a thousand times over the years from this angle (But a little closer up and with younger, better eyes then) and I still had a lot of trouble, Dave. I didn't expect anyone to get any of them.
I was hoping to recognize at least one album, but no luck. heh
Love seeing Casey all up in there. My Ripley looks for nooks and crannies to explore like that.
Also love these photochrom's from that Library of Congress photostream:

Those are gorgeous pictures, Kim, but I wonder why some of them are in the Library of Congress collection. One like this from Norway:

It's magnificent but what is it doing in the Library of Congress?
I recognized the Bruce Boxed Set.
And *I knew* there'd be some Boston in there somewhere. Just because there had to be.
I only have their first two albums, delmer. Bought the first one on the strength of the album cover. Had never heard a single song from them before that. It started getting airplay in New Orleans almost a year after I bought it. Doubt anyone still buys records that way.
By the way, I would bet almost anything that the first album is just to the left or just to the right of Don't Look Back but I just can't tell for sure.
