Saw two signs on yesterday evening's bike ride that I thought I'd share. The "NO Newspaper" one really intrigues me. I have no idea what it means.

Today's QOTD is a comment on a London Times article about the Italian Prime Minister's marriage and sex issues.
14 days until football season ...
Quote of the Day
It's very cultural specific. Silvo is just like most italians. For my sins I'm married to one and the only time he doen't want sex (`make love' as he puts it) is when he's making himself an expresso. Thank God he is addicted to coffee otherwise I'd be in real trouble. But frankly I wouldn't have it any other way. He is gorgous! I have two children and with him, it makes it three children! Voila! That's how they are! BTW he also calls his mother every other day! That annoys me more than anything else!

Quote from said blog: "New sign in Albuquerque."

In Maryland, you see a lot of folks with "No Free Newspapers" on their mailboxes. Local papers (like the now defunct Baltimore Examiner) will sometimes just give everyone the paper gratis for a period of time in order to generate new customers. Perhaps that's what your sign guy means.

Good to see you, Kem. That's one that hadn't crossed my mind and it's quite possibly correct but a little surprising. I don't think anyone is still doing that around here and it was really never that many but people get intense about some of the silliest things.
I still get a free weekly dropped on my front steps every Wednesday. I bet I couldn't get it stopped if I tried.
There was an advertising supplement rolled up and rubber banded on my porch this morning. I was surprised. The only thing I might like to get would be the Burger King breakfast sandwich. But I won't since you have to buy one to get one free. They wasted all that paper for nothing.
I don't think they're doing it too much in Maryland anymore, either, given the death of print and all. But for a while, the Baltimore Examiner spammed the county daily and a very local, almost neighborhood-based paper, spammed the county weekly. It was enough that the "No Free Papers" signs are relatively commonplace still.
I am fairly intense about free paper distributors (there's no depth of hell low enough for them) and it's not altogether silly. An accumulation of unasked-for newspapers in the driveway is a dead giveaway that no one is at home.

I'd get pretty intense about that, too, Kem. I had no idea. When I lived in the suburb, I'd get maybe two free ones in any one month. Where this sign is, I'd be surprised if they're getting even that many.
I get a free newspaper I could do without, but I've never thought about putting up a sign. And, about once or twice a year I open it up and read it.
What I'd like to stop is that plastic bag of flyers that someone keeps leaving on my mailbox. I never use them and the waste troubles me. I wouldn't go so far as to put a sign up as I'm afraid some kid is putting it there and I wouldn't was to hurt his feelings or affect his income.
