NFC Championship Weekend - January 23, 2010

I hope Saints fans will be nice to Vikings fans at the game and around town today and tomorrow. I'd bet that 99% of them will be but we will surely hear about the few idiots that every town has. Saints fans complained about the treatment they got in Chicago a few years ago on that NFC Championship weekend. Set a better example, Saints fans. A little razzing is OK, violence and vandalism isn't. Besides, this is a tough economy and these people are in our town spending money.

You may not know it if you're in New Orleans, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, or New York City but there are things in the world more important than football. I didn't get to see much of the Hope for Haiti fundraiser last night but below is Dave Matthews and Neil Young performing Hank Williams' Alone and Forsaken. I did get to see that. Fantastic. They are great together. Please help if you can.

Quote of the Day
The darkness is falling
The sky has turned gray
A hound in the distance is starting to bey
I wonder, I wonder
What she's thinking of
Forsaken, forgotten
Without any love
Hank Williams, Alone and Forsaken

Blog of the day is here.

Quote from said blog: "Preparation is one thing. Playing is another. Nothing can quite duplicate the environment the Vikings and Saints will experience Sunday."

From the BOTD link:

"After breaking the huddle, Manning began to make pre-snap adjustments as he surveyed the Saints' defense at the line of scrimmage. On cue, the Superdome crowd stirred to life. Manning walked frantically to each end of the tackle box to shout instructions to his linemen as the play clock ticked past 10 seconds. He then turned to his backs, shouted a pass protection audible and gestured to the right side of the Giants' line as he stepped hurriedly under center."

If Favre starts doing that it's going to be a long day for the Vikes. But can Favre and the Vikes be effective on offense without being able to audible? What Favre and Bevell are going to try here is the most fascinating of many questions to me. I can hardly stand it.

Well, that was lovely. I had never heard it before and you know, Daddy was Hank Williams' biggest fan and had several of his albums. A sad song but perfect for it's purpose. I watched for awhile -- a huge number of people turned out to work it and George Clooney must have been worn out by the time it was over. Just think of his organizational skills! Who knew?

On another note, my sympathies to you on the loss of your first cat. I still remember your describing finding her by your truck at age 3 weeks or so and how you could not leave her there, even though there were two dogs at home who were not cat lovers! Sad to lose a pet, even an old and ailing one.

Oh, and my gut tells me that New Orleans will be a fine host. Now Chicago...I've personally witnessed a few incidents there that embarrassed my Chicago hosts.

"She was the only pet we've ever had that preferred to be with me rather than Patsy, even if it was only because I could sit still longer."

Or maybe because you were the one who saved her from that scary street long ago.
