A FlickR friend added one of my photos to his gallery, "Pubs that have been locals of mine". The Columbia Street Tap Room fits a lot of categories. Pub works as does tavern as does bar and grill as does honky tonk.
Lane Kiffin leaves Tennessee holding an empty bag ... and the Vols are better off. I'd feel for Tennessee fans a little more if they hadn't unceremoniously dumped the previous head coach, Phillip Fulmer, who did want to stay. Tennessee will be fine. That's a terrific job. Great candidates will be lining up this morning.

Quote of the Day
And when your looks are gone and you're alone
How many nights you sit beside the phone
What were those things you wanted for yourself
Teenage ambitions you remember well
Asia, Heat of the Moment
Blog of the day is here.

Shades of Lou Holtz leaving Minnesota after only two years for Notre Dame. I still haven't forgiven him for that. ;)
Ask almost any Tiger fan some day about Nick Saban leaving LSU for the Dolphins, Dave. This Tiger fan didn't mind that much at the time but a lot of them are still seething about that, more so after he left the Dolphins for bitter rival Alabama, and even more so now that he brought THEM a national championship. When he brings his Crimson Tide to Baton Rouge this November, to say there will be some intensity in the already rabid fan base is a rather enormous understatement. Lane's dirty deed pales in comparison.
Holtz actually had an out to go to Notre Dame built into his contract, but what really infuriated me was how he left the players he had recruited in the lurch and didn't even coach them in the bowl game that they had earned after years of lousy seasons. Total jerk.
That may not have been such a bad thing, though, Dave. LSU allowed Saban to coach the bowl game but thought it was a mistake later. His players were angry and broken-hearted and didn't really want to be around him. As with most divorces, the kids are the ones who suffer the most.
