Monday Missives - June 21, 2010 Issue

98º here at CrabAppleLane yesterday with a heat index of 110º. The first day of summer was a good day to stay indoors.

Drew and Baylen Brees threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium yesterday. They're living large these days. Well deserved. I prefer his Saints cap to the Yankees cap but I suppose it's OK for a day ... in June.

About web ads: I've been seeing a lot of them lately as I'm sure you have, too. Advertisers aren't getting much bang for their buck in print media and television advertising is expensive so we're seeing much, much more of it on the web, where it is still relatively cheap. Unfortunately for all of us, advertisers haven't yet figured out how to be effective without being obnoxious, intrusive, and annoying but what really gets me lately is that many of the ads are only supposed to be for a few seconds and then we're supposed to be taken to the content we want to see but we're only getting the ads. I'm guessing the advertisers have no problem with this web shortcoming on some sites, though.

5 song iTune shuffle from the CrabAppleLane Five Star playlist starting with "H":

  3. Heavy Fuel - Dire Straits - On The Night (LIVE)
  4. Hill Farmer's Blues - Mark Knopfler - The Ragpicker's Dream
  5. Heart Full Of Soul - The Yardbirds - Heart Full Of Soul And Other Hits

Blog of the day is here.

Quote from said blog: "Super Bowl champ Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints delivered a supersized $10,000 check made out to the Yankees Foundation. He just passed it to Teixeira on the field, with son Baylen, the Super Bowl baby, in tow."
