Still no invite. Looks like I'll probably miss the newest wedding of the century. For what it's worth, I would have had to use one of those $15k toilets ... even if I didn't have to go.

Despite the rough outing yesterday, trading for Roy Oswalt was a great move by the Phillies.

Last night, I closed comments on all but the last 10 days' entries here. A newer antispam defense called TypePad AntiSpam had eliminated the need to do this for a time but spammers are like cockroaches ... in more ways than one. They've figured out a way to get around my TypePad defense in sufficient enough numbers that another step had to be taken. Spammers are impossible to get rid of entirely. They're determined and very resilient. You just have to be diligent in your defenses and squash the few that do get through ... or quit. Closing comments on older entries is a practice I used to use as an antispam defense at one time. It is effective but was somewhat tedious. I found a plug-in last night that made it easier to do this on a lot of entries at once and all is quiet here this morning. I'll no longer accept trackbacks, either.

Sam Bradford makes as much as or even more money than Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Brett Favre ... and Sam hasn't thrown a pass in an NFL game yet. He'll get $50 million if he never throws one. Nice work if you can get it.

The QOTD is John Harbaugh's response to losing a starting cornerback for the season to injury on "a day before the first full-team practice of Ravens training camp". What else could he say?

40 days until football season ...

Quote of the Day
We're going to have a great defense. We're going to have a really, really good football team.
John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens Head Coach

Blog of the day is here.

I got my invitation a while ago. Then I heard about the toilets and thought: "Hey, if they're skimping on that, where else are they cutting corners? No chocolate fountain? Tony Orlando without Dawn? Only New York champagne? Pffft! Who needs it? Guess I just won't go.
