About today's QOTD: I agree with Dave. This whole thing is a media-driven feeding frenzy. Curiously missing is an actual statement from the main character in this summer stock theater, not that a statement from this particular character means very much five weeks before the curtain rises. Whatever the final script ends up being, there are thousands of media outlets who would like to be the first to report it, praise it, criticize it, reflect on it, expound at length on it, and, basically, cash in on it. Most of those scripts are undoubtedly already written. In track, they'd call what happened yesterday "jumping the gun". In TV, I think they call it "jumping the shark". :)

The Vikings are dangling an additional $7 million to keep Brett Favre with the team this season, NFL sources say.

I'm not taking any reports at face value unless they include direct quotes from Favre or actually name some names. I question this "NFL sources" nonsense also.
I don't think I'm going to take any of this nonsense seriously while we're still in August. What I don't understand is why anyone would quote "NFL sources" in the first place. The league is not in the loop until Favre files his retirement papers and I would almost bet my house he hasn't done that yet.
