Was pelted with sideways rain last night on the way home. Visibility was not good. Must change wiper blades today.

I was in and out of last night's game after the first quarter. What I saw was a Saints team that was not very sharp and looked a little sluggish. The Pats didn't look all that sharp, either, but they seemed to have a little more energy. If last night is any indication, the Pats will not be the Brady-Moss-Welker show any more. They spread the ball around pretty good last night. No secret where they picked that up. They've been practicing with the Saints all week. Page One of Sean Payton's offensive philosophy: Make the defense defend everyone. Hope the Saints picked up a few things from them, too. It was a typical first preseason game. Not all good but not all bad, either.

Today's QOTD is from Saints offensive tackle, Jon Stinchcomb (Seen here with my nephew's lovely wife and her class). In a sideline interview last night, he expressed skepticism for an 18-game NFL schedule, even if they reduce the preseason schedule by two games. I'm with him. I'd rather the NFL just keep the 16-game schedule and eliminate those two preseason games. The 18-game schedule is going to happen, though. Their expressed concern for player safety is nothing but lip service. It's all about the money-grubbing for the owners.

Quote of the Day
We have high standards for ourselves, so this was pretty disappointing.

Blog of the day is here.

Quote from said blog: "It was hard not to like what the New England Patriots did tonight against the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints, defeating the champs 27-24 on a late Stephen Gostkowski field goal."

Lots of rain here this week. The ground is so saturated that it won't take much at all to create flash floods.

"It was a typical first preseason game. Not all good but not all bad, either."

The first three games all I care about is avoiding injuries. The only preseason game that matters is the last one. You know, the one that Favre shows up for. :)
