It's the first preseason game for both teams. I'll watch the first half and maybe part of the second half but I'll move on to something else when it starts getting sloppy. I'll try not to get too excited if the Saints look good or get too upset if they don't. I'll probably fail. The objective for both teams is to get film on players they are evaluating and try to get out of the game with no injuries. Winning is a distant third on the depth chart tonight.
The injury bug that has been making the rounds at NFL training camps hit the Saints yesterday. Running back Lynell Hamilton is out for the season with a torn ACL. He was the 3rd running back and a valuable special teams player. The Saints will bring someone, probably Ladell Betts, in to replace him. Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush get most of the running back responsibility but neither seem to be able to complete a season without missing games. An experienced and reliable third option is a necessity and the two young guys they have, P.J. Hill and Chris Ivory, don't fit that bill. I am anxious to see what those two CAN do tonight, though. They both figure to play a lot. Should be fun tonight. Saints football is back.

Quote of the Day
Sean is a sharp guy. He’s got a lot of great ideas. He’s innovative. He’s creative. He certainly has a strong philosophy, but I wouldn’t say he’s so set in his ways that he wouldn’t change anything. He’s experimented with some different things and it’s good to exchange ideas like that.

Blog of the day is here.
Quote from said blog: "On a team with so many unproven players about to be thrust into key roles it's hard to narrow it down to just five who we're most interested to see when the Patriots kick off their preseason against the New Orleans Saints."

I think the biggest health issue for the Vikes so far is the return of Percy Harvin's migraines. The return of Favre is probably a bigger factor toward Harvin's FFL value, but the migraine issue is worrisome.
I've been kinda following that story. It is very worrisome that they haven't gotten a handle on that yet, Dave. Migraines are very serious and I'm sure he's getting the best possible care. It's disheartening to see such a young man go through that. He has a bright future if he can get those nasty things under control. I don't remember that being an issue at Florida.
