Monday Morning QB - August 16, 2010

Saw a little of Tim Tebow last night. After watching him for a few plays, I have no idea what the Broncos were thinking when they drafted him. I know it's unfair to judge his Broncos handlers after only a few months with the team but he looks about the same now as he did the last four years at Florida. He's a fantastic athlete. He's eager to learn, works hard, and plays hard. I get that. He's also got serious mechanical problems when he passes that will take a while to correct and that's assuming that it even can be corrected. He's got a slow, telegraphic throwing motion that he could get away with against Central Florida and Georgia Southern but the NFL is different. If he doesn't correct it, he'll be sacked or intercepted a lot. The NFL is a passing league. Quarterbacks are called upon to pass on about half of all offensive plays. Any way you look at him, he's a long-term project at QB. Long-term projects should be drafted in the lower rounds, not the first round.

Got about half of my fantasy football spreadsheet done this weekend. The only thing I can say with certainty is that I wish we were having our auction a few weeks later. Too many teams are too unsettled at too many positions. The positions that are unsettled now are where ALL of the pleasant surprises come from. It's the difference between a good season and a disappointing one.

The Houston Texans come to town this week to work with the Saints before their preseason game Saturday. Unlike the mutual admiration society the Saints and Patriots convened last week, the Saints and Texans mix it up and go after each other a little more. There were fights last year. I expect the two teams will reign that in a little better this time.

24 days until football season ...

Blog of the day is here.

Quote from said blog: "This week John McClain of the Houston Chronicle told 610 AM that the Texans were the third best NFL team, talent wise. He said the Texans ranked behind the (1) Indianapolis Colts and (2) San Diego Chargers."
