I am trying not to post football stuff every day but that seems to be all that's here some mornings. So, here I go again. :)
A little perspective before we all get too worked up for the very first game of the season: Last year's Kickoff Classic featured the previous year's top two AFC playoff seeds, the Titans and Steelers. They played a fantastic defensive game that was decided in overtime. Then, they had to play 15 more games each, they both blew up, and neither team made the playoffs.
The Saints' Darren Sharper and the Vikings' Visanthe Shiancoe tweeted trash talk to each other for a few weeks earlier this year until they were told to stop.
Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams spouted off last week about how the Saints were going to send a message to the league that they're going to be physical on defense ... starting on September 9.
Yesterday, Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress made some comments about last year's NFC Championship Game and the Saints responded. I have nothing to add to what I said back in January about that except this:
The game is on.
As if this one needed any extra mustard. :)

Quote of the Day
I've made the decision not to do radio anymore. The reason is, I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful, without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and attack sponsors -- I'm sort of done with that.

Blog of the day is here.
Quote from said blog: "The QB went on to say that his teammates know “he’s got their back” and he thinks his teammates have his back, too."

I can't listen to that one right now, but I think the hits Favre took last were nearly all clean. There might have been one or two that could have been called, but nothing to scream about. Childress and Favre went with a game plan that left Favre open to punishment, but also racked up 475 yards. It was the turnovers that killed the Vikes and the Saints deserve credit for that too, but those aren't always going to happen. Regardless, I wouldn't expect the same game plan from Bevell in three weeks. :)
I'm not expecting the same game from either team, Dave. Both teams left it all on the field last year, which you can only do if the Super Bowl is at stake. I expect this one to be closer to the Monday night game from two years ago. Exciting and fun but not nearly as exhausting. Last year's game was easily the most emotionally draining game I ever watched. More please. :)
