Quite an amazing turnaround for Ford and GM. Good job.
I think I have to read that book before the movie is released. I've heard a lot about it.
Although Avatar had some golly gee 3D moments and the modern, requisite glasses are more comfortable and less likely to give me a headache, I hope filmmakers use that technology sparingly. It really adds very little in most cases.
I turned to the game last night just in time to see Eli Manning take a tough hit. Looks worse than it is but hits like that are why fans hold their breath when their star QB is in any preseason game. There's an upside for Eli according to the QOTD. I love it.

Quote of the Day
When you see a quarterback bleeding like that it was something out of a Friday The 13th Movie. Now we know it's pretty much a laceration. I think, hopefully, it will make him look a little tougher.

Blog of the day is here.
Quote from said blog: "Burke, for example, once showed how improved trade in the ancient world led to the understanding of magnetism during the 16th century, which in turn led to the discovery of electricity in the 17th century and ultimately the development of radar and nuclear weapons in the 20th century."

Rob, about the book... the book has become sort of a crusade thing with me. I thought "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was just awful. Not only was it a mediocre mystery (I figured out the basic details 100 pages in) but it was horribly written. Like something a high-schooler would churn out: cliche-ridden, oddball phases and words, simplistic. Yuck. The book was so bad, I now have to fight this nearly irrepressible urge to get out my soapbox whenever I talk about it lest I ramble on and on about why it's so bad (which I'm doing now) so I'll shut up.

PS. Ebert and "Reelviews.com" both thought the original Swedish movie was pretty good.
Thank you, Kem. I've mainly been avoiding it because of the "Twilight"-type buzz that surrounds it. Your jeremiad could have easily applied to that juvenile series, too. I think my studious avoidance will continue.
Eli should maybe do a better job of tightening down the old chin strap? It looks to me like he shouldn't have lost his helmet in the first place. Besides, he's always struck me as a pretty tough QB anyway. It runs in the family.
I've been noticing a lot of helmets flying off, Dave. I don't understand it. I thought equipment was getting better, particularly helmets. When I first started watching pro football, about half the players didn't even snap their chinstrap. Those helmets almost never came off unintentionally.
I heard Emma Watson aka Hermione Granger in Harry Potter really wanted that part and had cut off her hair really short in an effort to appeal to the casting team...looks like she lost out...
Fi,
I'm afraid Emma might be a bit typecast until she grows out of that young lady thing she has going on. :)
