I'm all over the map about this NY Times piece on Apple:
It's not just about cheap labor — flexibility in staffing, supply chains and reconfiguring factories matter
Translation: It's about cheaper EVERYTHING. In the automotive industry, we have seen foreign manufacturers build factories in America in order to sell their products here. Eventually, Apple and others like them will see some pressure to start providing some of the high wages necessary to purchase their products. That pressure won't necessarily come from government although some of it surely will. No, it will come from consumers and some of the industries that ARE paying the higher wages that are benefiting Apple and their ilk.
A foreman immediately roused 8,000 workers inside the company’s dormitories, according to the executive. Each employee was given a biscuit and a cup of tea, guided to a workstation and within half an hour started a 12-hour shift fitting glass screens into beveled frames. Within 96 hours, the plant was producing over 10,000 iPhones a day.
How many of those 8,000 can afford an iPhone at current retail prices? Quite possible the foreman can't even afford one.
Full disclosure: There are two iPhones and an active iTunes account at CrabAppleLane. I don't feel guilty but I do feel conflicted sometimes.
RIP, Joe Paterno. Your anguish is over.
About today's QOTD: I'm a fan of the first two Underworld movies. Can't remember if I saw the third one. Kinda think I did, though. CME is still a fave here with or without black latex Kate although that's definitely a nice touch. :)
You know your eyesight is starting to fail when you try to put air into a tire without removing the cap. Was quite pleasantly surprised to have the tractor start right up after sitting idle and outside for so long. Didn't get much maintenance done this weekend because my arthritic knee just wouldn't cooperate but it's parked by the garage and it's ready when I am. Might be able to do some work this week when I get home. Looking forward to a spring garden and more tomato sauce.

Quote of the Day
The comely British actress — also currently being seen in theaters as the wife-in-peril in "Contraband" -- has returned to once again don the skintight black latex outfit that is these films’ biggest draw to fanboys.

Blog of the day is here.
Quote from said blog: "I would really like to see more young bands bring the symphonic element..For I feel it really adds to the crushing music and separates it from the hordes of Death Metal Bands nowadays."
