First hummingbird of 2012 sighted at CrabAppleLane yesterday. I heard at least one in the trees yesterday morning but I didn't see him approach the feeders until dusk yesterday. A quite welcome sight indeed.

About today's QOTD: You will never get me to dispute that Calvin Johnson is a great player. That contract, though? WOW.

Quote of the Day
When Calvin Johnson signed his eight-year, $132 million contract with Detroit, the Lions star wideout became the eleventh NFL player to earn a deal north of $100 million.

Quote from said blog: "The number of questions embattled Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad faced from lawmakers Wednesday in an unprecedented, publicly broadcast Parliamentary interrogation of his economic policies, cabinet appointments and tense relationship with the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei."

Awesome. I thought I was the only one who noted the date of the first hummingbird arrival. My wife just rolls her eyes. FYI, I don't start seeing them in my backyard in Maryland till the 4th week of April on average. (Though I'm sure my yard isn't as bird friendly as yours.)

Good to see another sign of spring arrive. We're having a record shattering spring up here. The ice may go out today or tomorrow, a good three weeks ahead of time.
That Calvin Johnson contract makes me go wow too. $53 million guaranteed too. I wonder how much the insurance policies on him are costing per year.
The birds, especially the cardinals, love my yard, Kem. I had something to do with that a few years ago but the wife has taken over. I feed the hummers but she feeds everything else. I wish I could spend more time on my deck just watching them.
Mildest winter ever, Dave. Not sure it dropped below freezing even once.
The Saints' passing game is more productive than the Lions'. Their entire receiving corps, including the nice new contract Marques Colston signed, won't cost nearly as much as Calvin, alone. He's a great player but he's just one.
