Designer Key Blanks

I went to a local [Covington] hardware store to get a duplicate house key today. The salesperson pointed out a display of [get this] DESIGNER KEY BLANKS. I was really tickled by the colorful display and, had the key been for me, I would have spent the extra dollar for a colorful design. I'd never seen these before. Maybe you have? Admittedly, I don't get out much.

I searched online hoping to find a photo of these keys to share with you since I don't feel I can adequately describe them. The best I was able to manage was a too-small photo in an article from last year. Because the photo is small, you really can't see the key blank designs, except perhaps the one with stars & stripes, but the article describes others.

Anyway, if anyone wants to see them up close and personal, stop in at Larry's Hardware on Columbia Street (just past the new courthouse, but before Spencer's Feed) in Covington.

I think it's a pretty cool idea. I have three keys on my key chain that are almost identical. I'm tempted to go have extras made just so I can more easily distinguish them.

Bobette is finally breaking down and getting a new computer. I hope I'm next. Good Luck, Bobette!

Television

Reality television sucks; it has suctioned the brains of many, including people I respect. I don't fault them. I see them as victims.

I was attacked by it one day. For one whole hour, I found myself drawn by its forces in much the same way ones eyes might be drawn to a train wreck. You know the feeling... It's when you really don't want to see something, but the overwhelming horror won't let you look away.

At the end of that hour I was able to walk away without a discernible depletion of gray matter. I've seen the train wreck, and I've moved on.

Solitaire

It should be noted that Patsy plays a Hoyle Solitaire game regularly on her supersonic PC that plays about the same as it played on her old 286. In fact, she's playing it now.

What I do in my spare time

I got into fantasy football 9 seasons ago when a friend asked me to partner with him. He never did very well and thought I would be able to help him. I had heard about fantasy football and wanted to see what it was about so I gladly accepted. The hobby has taken up residence in my life since then.

Two years went by and I was looking to get into another league. Partnering was fine but I wanted an opportunity to have my own team and call all of the shots. None to be found anywhere. I started my own and invited only family members and trusted friends. Toward the end of that season, I figured out how to put the results online and the rest is history.

I do both of those leagues online now and also do another strictly as a favor to a friend. They're located here. I own Erasers in Ya Boys and Ragpickers in CFFL. We’re about to get started in a few weeks. Ya Boys is entering its 14th season and CFFL, the one I founded, is entering its 7th. Both are thriving. It’s a lot of fun. If you like pro football, this is a great hobby. The last figures I saw say that upwards of 30 million people play now. That’s 10% of the population of the U.S. That just boggles my mind.

A decent view from CrabAppleLane here.

Red Ryders

Speaking of NASCAR, Red Ryders finished second in the CrabAppleLane Fantasy NASCAR League. We outsmarted ourselves by taking Joe Nemechek out and inserting Jeremy Mayfield into our starting lineup. Mayfield qualified 4 spots higher but finished the race 31 spots lower. Cost us the championship.

Probably won't get another chance. I think that league is gone next year.

New Blog

I have installed a new blog for the Laurendines. It was a necessary evil. The old one was set to self-destruct at some point in the future.

I am in the process of migrating the old entries and comments to this blog. It is not terribly hard but it is time-consuming. Enjoy what's here for now.
