I decided not to have the anxiety attack as planned.

I need two root canals, one on either side of my lower jaw. That will be next week and the week after. I really don't get panicky over going to the dentist. I focus on being able to eat all my favorite sugary foods again and stopping the pain. I was afraid to watch the infamous toothache scene in "CastAway" last week lest it start my tooth to throbbing. Motrin has been my friend for the past two weeks.

Our tacos were good last night. I baked a white cake with coconut/pecan icing, not from scratch. I ate some despite knowing how those particles were going to go into the place where my filling used to be. I didn't feel a thing.

On with the day. Supper tonight will be something quick and easy. I might go to the planning and zoning committee meeting. They covertly have approved an ammendment to a land use plan and a mini-mall will be put up near my home. I mean, c'mon. A sewage treatment facility on one side of me and a mini-mall, probably will have a dollar store there, on the other side of me. I so want out of here.

Michael was just remarking on the humble home on hwy. 59 that has two schools behind him and two mini-malls on either side of him. Those things were built around him, or it could be a her (though we both assumed it was male - wonder why), and we want to know what thoughts are/were running through "it's" head as constuction was taking place. Was he holding out for a good offer? Or he likes his location and convenience to getting on I-12? Don't know, but it looks out of place to see a little home sandwiched in between all that commercialism and administration. Fountainbleu highschool and middle schools are big schools. Traffic is intense around his house for hours out of each day. Go figure, where people settle.

Janine - I love the drive down Airline Blvd. and Tulane Ave. just to see, here and there, a little house with curtains on the windows; people who have not given up their home of many years. Of course, over time, I've noticed that there are fewer and fewer of these buildings. Most have been torn down, but many have just been converted from home to office, and still look good.

I never heard you mention that you had abscesses. Were they not painful? I'm glad you're having them taken care of.

If I go to the family reunion, I will stay at Pat Thompson's and I will go from Saturday to Saturday. I haven't started shopping for airlines yet. I didn't have any luck at all last year when I was trying to get there for October 3rd. By luck I mean the lowest fare possible. I was really trying to match the fares I had for my two trips the year before. In May 2002 I paid $143, and in October 2002 I paid $138. Car rental prices never seem to change though. They are always expensive.

I do not envy you at all! I had my first root canal a year ago and still have haunting memories of it. Not the procedure itself but the numbing process. I ended up with 7 shots of novacaine through my palate. He told me I had an extremely long root. Big suprise to a 6-footer! I now brush, floss, massage my gums and anything else I can think of to keep me out of the oral surgeon's office. Others have told me it wasn't bad at all. I'll reserve my final opinion until after I have a second procedure done (not anytime soon I hope!).

Our exciting dinner last night was tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Good ol' comfort food!

I didn't use to be a nervine when it came to dental work until about 4 years ago when I got my first crown. I sat white-knuckled in that chair for the entire three hour process. Now I cringe when I just have my teeth cleaned. I don't know what ruined me for it all, but I hope I never have to have a root canal!

Laura- tomato soup and grilled cheese remind me of my childhood. Mama used to serve that. Is that a Minnesota thing? I never eat that anymore. Well, I will eat grilled cheese by itself occasionally.

I still eat grilled cheese sandwiches and Campbell's Cream of Tomato soup all the time. "Comfort food" is the right term for it. It has to be plain old Campbell's Cream of Tomato soup fixed with whole milk, though. No fancy, smancy Progresso or anything like that for me.

As for the dentist, I have had every procedure they do. Some several times. It all started when I was seven years old when I allowed my two front teeth to break my fall. My mouth has been the testing ground for every dental and orthodontic procedure since. I can sleep through a root canal.

Yeah, I am not worried about the root canals. I have had lots of work done on my mouth too. I had a root canal done about 18 months ago. That doctor had a state of the art office, complete with those goggles I could put on to watch a movie, chosen from their huge selection. I didn't know I would be there long enough to watch that and I would never start one I really wanted to see if I had to leave before the ending. His price for the root canal - only $750. This new dentist I am seeing, a Dr. Handsome, is giving me a huge break on them - $250 each tooth. My insurance will pay 50% of that and he is throwing in the "build-up" for free. Dr. Handsome is also Dr. Sympathy. I like him.

Blah!! Campbell's Tomato soup is yucky. Ketchup with milk in it. We had chicken tenders, fries, and a can of corn last night. Michael was in charge of that. The first can of corn he opened, seasoned, buttered, and then nuked had a worm in it. One of those mealy ones. I didn't eat any out of the second can opened.

A worm in a can of corn- that's disgusting! You make me never want to open up another can. You can keep that kind of info. to yourself next time.

I've never heard of movie goggles at the dentist. That would be great. I love my dentist, but he's not that high-tech.

It's fozen pizza night for us tonight. Yum yum!

My next door neighbor in Metairie gave me a whole big bag of corn he grew. Everyone of those ears had at least one of those mealy worms in it. They all went in the garbage. I still feel bad about how wimpy I am about that kind of stuff. I am sure what we don't know about canning practices in America doesn't hurt us. Christina did that study one time about how much cat hair and rat droppings are allowed in those warehouses and cannerys. Ignorance is bliss. One time Michael's co-worker that thought he was eating healthy by eating a chicken dog, found a chicken toe nail in his hot dog. It was recognizable. I eat vegetarian hotdogs, with vegetarian chili most of the time. Michael likes to tell me about what could possibly surface in those. I don't want to know. Really. If you like what you eat, don't go in the kitchen.

I don't remember doing a study about cat hair & rat droppings. You're making that up! Where would I have gotten my information? I'm with my sister, don't share anymore stories about worms in corn or any other disgusting thing in food. Thanks!!

Well then it was you who must have told me about a classmate that did that research paper at UNO. I know I heard that from somewhere.

Mom, when we were little, would you have taken that worm out before we saw it and served that corn anyway?

Eat corn on the cob, Christina and Angela and anyone else who was grossed out about a little ole mealy worm with an orange head laying out on some loose corn.

Canned corn and peas need to be bannished! I've never found anything in them but now I know why I don't eat them! Fresh or frozen is the only way to go! However, Saturday Paul went to the grocery store. I asked him to pick up some fresh green beans for dinner on Sunday. $1.79 lb!!! They were delicious but really! The hazards of buying fresh veggies in the winter in MN.

I prefer fresh vegetables too. Last night we had pork chops, mac'n'cheese, and a can of peas. Only Michael and I had baked potatoes and my pork chop was a veggie burger. You wouldn't see me looking longingly at those peas now. I didn't touch them. It wasn't my idea to open that can of peas. I'd have done salad, but that is what you get when you complain loud and often enough to get the man to take over and make supper. I had lettuce, tomato, and pickle(a vegetable) on my burger poboy, with sliced cheddar cheese and mayo. It was delicious.

I could make some cole slaw tonight, with fried catfish. I don't know what else to round it out with. I think I give too much thought to "what's for dinner." I am going to make a new year's resolution for my birthday that I am not going to concern myself with that question anymore. When the three people ask me, I will tell them "food, and you are going to like it." Right, Mom? and then I will think of something. And when they get a little older (the children, that is), I will respond with, "I give up. What is?"
