Totem???

I have been passing this thing every night on my way home for a long time now. Patsy passes it every day and night. I have no idea what it is but I like it a lot. The owner illuminates it. You can see the light on the ground. It has not weathered to any degree that I can notice but I suspect it is well-tended. I have never seen one of these before. Does anyone know what it is or what it is supposed to do?

I'm probably cursed now for photographing it.

Pictures Galore!

Here are some more pictures from Christmas day. It was such fun to have everybody get to Mama’s just before the snow started to fall. We had a blast. I think Joey had more fun than the kids. I wonder if those kids would have gotten out there to start the snowball fight if Joey hadn’t started it first?

I’m also adding a picture of Joey’s first-ever buck. It’s an 8-point, but he isn’t too thrilled with it. It isn’t big enough for his liking. He is having it mounted though, so you’ll see it hanging on my wall in about 6 months.

There’s also a picture of Brooke retrieving a duck. Joey said she is becoming much better to take with him. She’s always been able to retrieve, but in the past she’s been a little more high-maintenance because she gets very over-excited.

Elizabeth has been at my house the last two days painting a vine border around the baby’s room. It’s going to be just adorable when it’s all finished! We’re also going to take some of the pictures from the baby bedding and make them into small painted pictures and frame them to hang on the wall. She’s got some great ideas for decorative mats and frames. She’s got all the vision. She’ll ask me what I want for such and such and my reply is always the same- “what do you think? Or what would you do?” I just don’t have that kind of vision.

I’m having my 5th annual holiday Bonco party this Saturday night. I’m thrilled to have the baby’s room set up for it. I’m expecting 20-24 people for the party. I had my 4D ultrasound yesterday. I have been looking forward to it since my friend’s mom offered to do it for me back in August. She is an ultrasound tech at another doctor’s office. It wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. Of course the baby wouldn’t cooperate. It didn’t want to smile for the camera so we didn’t get a great face shot. The 4D picture allowed for some real baby looking pictures though. The baby definitely has Joey’s mouth- it has very full lips. No sex detected-the lady doing it stayed mostly on the head and face since we don’t want to find out. The measurements indicated that the baby weighs about 2.7 pounds right now. I’ll have another regular ultrasound next week in my doctor’s office.

Just stuff for Tuesday

I imagine some of our ancestry originated in Ferrara, Italy, but our immediate ancestors are from Sicily ( And Minnesota via Ireland:) ). For a view of Ferrara, see the Ferrara, Italy webcam.

Some pictures I took today in Covington and Bush on a lazy Tuesday afternoon.

We saw "Meet the Fokkers"

We finally got a real date this past Sunday evening. David had Julia and Elizabeth took Aaron overnight. Michael and I used our gift certificate to Olive Garden and the cash Santa brought us and went out for dinner and a movie, just like civilized folks do. The dinner was good. I had shrimp and crabmeat ravioli in a cream/sherry sauce. It was delicious. The "...Fokkers", on the other hand, was silly. I wanted to see "What the Bleep do I Know?", but Michael wouldn't go see a movie unless it was Meet the you knows. He and I have only seen about 6 movies in a big screen theater so it was a treat to do that the other night. I haven't seen a big girl feature at the movies since I worked at a theater, I think. Maybe "A Beautiful Mind" was my last adult movie that I saw at a show. I have seen more than a handful of kids movies; Harry Potter(s), What a Girl Wants, Freaky Friday, Shrek2 twice, waah waah. It may be a long while before I get to go to another movie. Unless I sneak out and go. Yeah, that's the ticket. I would like to see the bleep movie before it moves on. I didn't know going into the show that "Meet the Fokkers" was a sequel to "Meet the Parents." I didn't like that movie, so I surely would have been more vocal about seeing the sequel. Overall, though, the Fokkers was a little bit more amusing than the first one. Just a little bit more.

This is some more fun from yesterday. Patsy did this with her $149 digital camera.

Merry/Happy Christmas Eve

I forget if it's Merry or Happy. Mom?

It's rather cold here in Bush. Winter is here.

Merry Christmas

Hi. Just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Today is set for pre-preparing some food. We are having Dan's family here for dinner on Christmas Eve. His parents have sold their townhouse in "the cities" and are having a new one built so they are "homeless" when they come to town. Dan's sister is hosting the extended family Christmas on Christmas day, so having Christmas Eve here will be fine. Since his family is small and his dad can't go downstairs (which is a mess of sheet rock dust etc) it works out well. Gary is kind enough to host the "Bye Family" Christmas on Christmas Day. Everyone brings something and it's a casual gathering which is a nice way to catch up on news of each family. We finally got a dusting of snow so it's actually kind of white for Christmas. Now the subzero temps and windchills are here for a few days just to remind us it's actually winter in MN. Again, Merry Christmas to all. Carol

Lunch Next Week

Patsy and I are off next week. We don't have any specific plans but we'd like to do the Quarter one of those days and we're definitely going to do lunch at New Orleans Food and Spirits ( One of our favorite NorthShore restaurants ) one day in Covington. Anyone care to join us? Perhaps that honeymooning couple in Madisonville?

The robins are here

Red, red robin

The robins are here, Laura. They’ve actually been here a few weeks now gorging on our fine Louisiana cuisine as they make their way south for the winter. They especially like these freshly cut fields. The worms and whatever seem to be more plentiful in them, I suppose.

Omar is back from India

Omar had a great time in India. He got sick the last day and his father got really sick when he returned. All are well now. Here are some pix from their trip.

More silliness

Facing south at sunset

This was taken about 45 minutes ago from the Winn Dixie parking lot on Hwy 59 near Janine's house. I was facing south toward Janine's house. The night is starting to fall in the east to the left but it's still kind of bright near the setting sun in the west to the right. The moon is riding high.

You guys are probably going to hate that I pretty much have the camera with me wherever I go on weekends.

Rob in 7th grade with braces

Rob in 7th grade (1969-1970) with braces. Sister Catherine remembers me like this, I'm sure.

Rob on 17th birthday - Krewe of Hesper

Dressed for the Mardi Gras parade, Krewe of Hesper, on February 16, 1974. My float was all pink bunny rabbits. It was also my birthday. Don't do the math.

Stuff

Castle

People in Minnesota have cabins. In Louisiana, fishing camps are the thing. One person had a different idea. I’m pretty sure these are all fishing camps but I have never been any closer to them than this photo so I don’t know for sure. This castle stands out and is recognized by anyone who has taken I-10 east out of New Orleans or I-10 west into New Orleans.

Tallow Tree

My colorful Tallow tree. Brother-in-law, Kevin, uprooted this thing during one family outing at his place in Madisonville. It’s doing fine here in Bush about 40 miles from where it originally took root.

Bradford Pears

The first Bradford pear tree above is no more than 20 feet from the third one and all three get almost identical exposure but they’re all in different color phases.

CrabAppleLane College Bowl Pool

All here are invited to play in the 5th Annual CrabAppleLane College Bowl Pool. It's a lot of fun and the prizes are pretty good.

The Reunion Blog and the Family Contacts list are still password-protected but access and the password has changed. Contact me if you want to get in. Carol has it, too.

Still Standing

I finally got caught up with the blog. I haven’t been on the computer since it gave me so many problems. It seems to be functioning okay now. I still get pop-ups and spam galore, but I’m doing my best to ignore them. All the money I’ve put out and not to mention the time I spent trying to rid the dern computer of that mess has only served to keep ME off the computer!

I’m just getting over pneumonia and feel so much better! I wish the weather would cooperate! It’s wet and yucky today. Kevin, brave soul, let Lars drive in to school this morning. I get so anxious when Lars is driving. I don’t let him drive when it’s wet out.

Kevin and his friend Tom will be installing my new oven today! Hip, Hip, Hooray! I have been living with a malfunctioining oven for over a year now. I could have had a new one last year I’m told, if I would have agreed to the one Kevin wanted! Go figure! After 22 years I should have recognized Kev’s MO! Our new oven is a convection oven. Not too thrilled with that, but I guess I’ll just have to learn how to use it! I love my Husband!

You have to stop and take in the scenery.

A view near CrabAppleLane

Taken from one of the many roads I’ve embarked on near home in the last few weeks. The sun has been fighting through the overcast here all morning. It has succeeded two or three times. Rain is coming.

Last of the blue ginger

My blue ginger is still blooming and clinging to its beauty three months after it started blooming. Yes, they're my favorites.

Christmas Shopping

Started Christmas shopping yet? I drive past Lakeside on my way home most nights. Lakeside is the major mall in Metairie ( Not nearly as grand as that one I visited in Bloomington this summer ). Last Friday, I made the mistake of driving past it rather than taking an alternate route. Those Christmas shopping people are serious. There was a logjam to get off of the interstate and bumper-to-bumper traffic all the way to the shopping center ( About a half mile ), where the parking lot was full. Friday was a light work force day. A lot of people took the day off or had the day off ( State of Louisiana ) for a nice four day weekend. I know where most of them must have been. I will not go that way this Friday.
