An update on Samuel

Sorry, no pictures. I have that bad camera karma and my camera froze up both times I visited the people. Samuel, or little Samsam (I am sometimes calling him), was supposed to get the apnea test last night and potentially come home today. Angela was expecting to be kicked out of the hospital yesterday as beds were needed there for delivering mothers. Samuel has been under the billi-lights in NICU, bringing his jaundice under control before they administer the test. Worse case scenario, he comes home with a monitor for the apnea. Angela and Joey are very strong. Samuel is absolutely precious. I didn't get to hold him this time. He can only have one visitor at a time w/ a parent in NICU. He seems quite content so I am satisfied by that. His multi-colored hair is an adorable thing to behold. There are red and blonde tips mixed in with the brown. Soooo cute.

No one has pictures yet?

Yes, Joey and Angela have some, but are nowhere near their computer. At some point, probably this week, Angela will get a picture onto the BLOG. Or not.

Everyone was so excited when Samuel was born that he was so perfect, with a good birth weight, even though four weeks early. Then the jaundice. Then the sleep apnea. He's still perfect to look at, but the doctors remind us, he didn't quite finish cooking. And that's what they're doing now.

I haven't heard from the stowaways this morning, so I'm assuming they spent another night in "their" room. You know, people are not having babies like they used to, so the nursery is nearly empty, and I counted seven empty rooms on Angela's hall. Plus, another benefit to them, babies and parents who are well go home next day usually.

If Samuel does well on the apnea test today, they think they'll be able to take him home around six this evening. So that's our hope too. They'll have a monitor on him at home which will sound an alarm if he forgets to breathe.

Here's where a large family comes in handy: everyone is spending one day with Angela while Joey goes to work Wednesday. By the time we run out of people, she'll be feeling fine and ready to take it on herself. Life is good.

Aunt Ginnie, Thanks for the update. I'm happy to hear Angela and Joey are able to stay with Samuel in the hospital. That's as it should be. Let them know I'm thinking of them and hope that Samuel gets to a nice ripe temperature soon enough to bring him home.

Just one more thing on this. They are staying one more night in the hospital so that they can work the monitor and the people can see if they're understanding how the monitor works and what they're going to do if they are called by it. I'm sure they will do fine. So Wednesday, March 2, is the homecoming and they're hoping it will be six or seven in the morning that the doctor will come by to discharge Samuel. He's a jogger and he said maybe he'll come by before his jog, rather than after. Keep your fingers crossed.
