When:April 2, 2005 from about 4:30PM until..........
Where:Rob & Patsy's place in Bush, LA
What to bring:Maybe some soft drinks (We'll have coffee and some soft drinks but probably not enough to go around) or ice but definitely bring your appetites.
I can't wait. Jackson learned how to peel crawfish a couple of weeks ago. I was craving them so I picked some up from Lil Kats on a Friday night. He's such a good eater. He loves to try new things. I know he'll be excited to hear about the crawfish boil. Hopefully we'll get there early enough to see them before they're boiled. I'll be bringing Jacob a pb&j sandwich!!
I plan to pick up the crawfish at about 2:30PM and be home for 3PM. Hope to have the first sack in the water by 3:30PM. Second will follow at about 4:10PM. Third, if necessary, would go in at about 4:45PM. Early arrivals (3PM or later) are welcome.
By the way, Daddy would have loved that picture! He bought one similar to it, only it has crabs in it. I remember when Mom & Dad got that picture. It was right after the kitchen had been completed and Mama didn't like it. Daddy loved it!
I wish I could be there!!! I remember visiting with a college roommate(Beth or Linda) and Aunt Ginnie started getting ready for supper. She put newspaper all over the kitchen table and set out napkins, bread and tabasco sauce. We were wondering what could be eaten in this manner. Uncle Sam came home with paper grocery bag and hollered for everyone to come for supper. Then he proceeds to dump out crawfish (and shrimp, I think). After learning how to peel them, we didn't slow down until they were gone! Also had lessons on how to "suck de heads" but I never got into that. Enjoy.
There was a time that Dad boiled crawfish and shrimp right there on the stove top. Not many people still do that. I remember your friend, Beth, tasting hogshead cheese for the first time at our table. I told her it was a little hot and I remember her saying "a little hot" with one eye closed and a tear in the other.
Robbie, Scott and I are coming and we are bringing the people. I'll bring something for my people to eat.
I also remember Daddy using that crab boil on the stove and my crying and complaining that my eyes were burning.
Nancy, I remember your visit with a couple of your friends. I remember my parents commenting on one of your friend's clogs. Your friend said that lots of nurses wore them to work because they were so comfortable. I had never seen clogs. I think that my dad thought they were funny and made a comment about a little Dutch girl.
Nancy -- The memory I have of Beth is of raw potatoes on her eyes. She went in the swimming pool with her contacts on and the chlorine gave her a terrible burn. Uncle Sam sliced a potato when we got home and made her lie down with one on each eye. She said it gave her great relief from the pain. Do you remember that?
The memory I have of your other friend, can't think of her name right now, pretty girl with blonde hair? Anyhow, we were walking through the crowds in Fat City, I was dragging behind as usual, and I saw the fellows sitting on the truck checking out the ladies, when all of a sudden one jumped down and gave your friend a pinch in a very private and obscure area. She went straight up in the air. And I did nothing, I'm ashamed to say. Linda. Isn't that it?
And here's something else I remember and I'm also a little ashamed that I didn't take care of it. Each of you girls was holding a sleeping two-year old on the way home from somewhere. I feel like you both had on woolen skirts but maybe not. Anyway, the girls wet, and my shame and sorrow is that I didn't offer to have the skirts (slacks?) dry cleaned. If it ever happens again, I will for sure.
All right. I should have read Nancy's entry a little closer because I see she named both of her friends who visited. Sorry about that and it's too late to change mine and act like I knew Linda's name. Oh well.
Aunt Ginnie: the episode with Linda getting pinched probably also included the guy trying to pull Linda away from us and Uncle Sam pulling on her other arm. When the guy(drunk) asked Linda who "the other guy" was, she replied "my dad" and I never saw anyone let go and run faster! It was hilarious, do you remember? The "wetted" clothes were washable as I recall--not to worry.
Sue: I'm sure we used vaseline because we weren't allowed to use mascara (or we couldn't afford it). It's still a cheap eye makeup remover.

I would like to have gotten a bit closer to it but the steam was rising and fogging up my lens. I still like the result.

Vaseline as mascara? I don't get it. I can see it as an eye makeup remover but not as mascara.
