Stephen proposed to Kellie today! He made a 5 minute video tape of some of the favorite places, songs and pictures that have been meaningful to them over the past 2-1/2 years. One of the places is this huge rock at the top of a hill about an hour's drive from here where people write graffati. On their 1st anniversary, they went there for a picnic. They spray painted a red heart with their names and the date inside of it. He filmed that and then the tape cut to flashbacks about other important places, events, etc. At the end of the tape, he froze it on his new painting of the words "Marry me" written in white over the heart with their names in it.
He had gotten permission from Kellie's principal to show this at 2:00 today over the closed circuit system at her school so it was broadcast into everyone's classroom. Brianne arranged to do one of her required teacher observations in Kellie's classroom today so was able to record Kellie's reaction to the whole thing. After the tape was finished, in walked Stephen with a pink rose and the engagement ring. He got on his knee and proposed. The 1st grade kids were yelling and jumping up and down. Brianne said the whole thing went off just perfectly. Kellie is coming here tonight at around 8:30. I will get to watch the video then.
The wedding will be a small family wedding with a few of their friends on July 22, 2005. They will be married at Sacred Heart, the tiny church near the college in Milledgeville. Scott and I are absolutely thrilled with the prospect of gaining Kellie as our daughter-in-law. She has been a blessing to us and the rest of our family. We are all very happy!

Congratulations, Kellie and Stephen. Awesome.
I can't wait to see both videos! I'm looking forward to the wedding. How exciting!
Felicitations. How exciting!! And what a romantic you are, Stephen. It makes me want to slap your Uncle Michael and say "See? Like that?" Actually, I am not on his case. Anytime I think he is unromantic, I have to eat those thoughts. Last night, instead of coming to my play, which I really don't care if he attends or not, he went to the grocery and did that for the week. Stephen, listen up, marriage is about grocery shopping and keeping a well-stocked household. I know all those other authority figures will blather on about loving each other and so on and so forth, but really... it's that and the laundry, making groceries, cleaning and cooking, changing the oil on the cars (always the man's job), etc... Work it out. I know you can.
Stephen -- Everyone will be telling you all sorts of things about what marriage is all about, and everyone is correct. My advice is to treat Kellie (and for her to treat you) as your best friend in all the world. Friendship is what makes the marriage work. Grandpa was my best friend from day one and for 48 years that never changed.
Love, Grandma
Congratulations to Stephen & Kellie! I can't wait to see the video. Stephen, you did an excellent job I hear.
Welcome to the family, Kellie!
Oh, yeah. Welcome Aboard, Kellie.
That's soo sweet, Stephen! It'll be great to have Kellie in the family! What'll that make her to me? A cousin-in-law? Oh well...
I'm coming! Don't worry Sue, I'll find my own accomidations. But, I'm definately coming. L&A will be with me, but I understand that they will not come to the wedding. Don't worry, it's under control.
Stephen and Kelly, I'm very happy for you! Welcome to the family Kelly! You're marrying a wonderful boy (sorry, he's my first nephew and I'm having a hard time thinking of him as a grown man!) I'm delighted that we got to meet you before now and let me just say that you are a wonderful girl and I am so glad Stephen found you!
Awwwwwwwwwwww! That is a wonderful proposal and memory. I am very happy for both of you and for the happy parents. Congratulations Stephen & Kellie. There will be a test on the names of all the out of state relatives at a later date.
I got goose bumps reading the touching story. It's a great way to start out a marriage when the mother-in-law likes you Kellie. Stephen, what a thoughtful, fun way to propose. I bet you'll be creative throughout your marriage. I agree with your Grandma about treating each other as best friends, so true! Congrats to all. Carol
Hi! I'm Kellie's mom, Janis. Her dad, Larry, and I are very excited about having Stephen as a son-in-law, and thank you all for making Kellie a part of your family!
