Mary Catherine has two very fun pieces of news that she would like to share with everyone. At 10am this morning, she got her braces off. Her orthodontist presented her with a big bag of chewy candy, gum, balloons, and a wine bottle of apple-grape juice. Her smile is so pretty now that she is minus all of the hardware. She wore her braces for two years, six days. (I didn't remember how long she had them on, but she had the exact date filed away in that steel trap mind of hers.)
The second major news item is that Mary Catherine made cheerleader!!! 72 girls tried out and 24 were selected. She worked very hard. She had to learn a dance, a cheer with all kinds of hand movements, a few jumps, and how to "spirit out". I didn't know that the cheerleaders danced. Their dance was a lot of fun!! I think she is going to have a great year! I can't wait to see how darling she looks in the cute little uniform!! After she was selected, I got to see her perform with the whole squad and it was such fun!!
While I was busy with Mary Catherine, Scott was entertaining Joe and 4 friends who came over for his birthday party. I had planned his birthday party before we knew about the tryouts. I didn't know until yesterday that if she made it, I would need to be there for an informational session and performance. Immediately after the performance, I raced home to meet Scott and the boys to take them to Funland. (I was supposed to leave Scott the van and I forgot.) Joe and his friends rode go-carts, played golf, and laser tag. We also gave them each a $3.00 card to play the games at the end of the evening. We thought they would blow through that really quickly and then we could leave. One boy went through his in no time. The rest took a while, but JACKSON took forever. I think somebody was ADDING money to it when my back was turned. I didn't think he would ever be through!!! They were all so cute (and a bit wild) and had such a good time! I am exhausted!!
I am so drained! I have been on an emotional rollercoaster this week and (as Scott kept pointing out) I wasn't even the one trying out!!
I hope that y'all get to read this. This is my fourth attempt to post something and I think if this doesn't go through, I'm done.

My mom and I would like to apologize for the "double entries." Uncle Robbie, if there is anyway to delate this one (the 11:10 pm one) would you mind doing it for us?
I didn't know "save" would put it on the blog without letting me preview. Anyway, I edited the royal "we" from the second entry. Hey, I am just pleased it worked. I told Mary Catherine that maybe Uncle Robbie could fix it. Well, Robbie?
I may have deleted the wrong one now that I read a little more. I thought the two were identical. You can go back and edit it to update it or just to get it like you want. There is a preview button that you can press if you want to see it before it's published but pressing save will publish for all to see. Congratulations on your first entry. It's a breeze, really, once you've had a little practice.
Oh, and congratulations, Mary Catherine.
Yes,indeed, congratulations. And Elizabeth. I told Mary Catherine that the cheerleading crown is hers. You are not to try it on. I know you sweated blood, but even so.
Congratulations Mary Catherine! I always wanted to be a cheerleader. I think you're going to have such a good time and get great experience with dance and stunts. Be careful with those stunts though! Can't wait to see some of your moves. Love, Na-nan.
Mary Catherine: Congrats on getting your braces off and making the cheerleading squad. We will be waiting for a posted picture to the blog to show off both your new smile and the cheerleading uniform!!
Posting pictures is Elizabeth's next project here, Nancy.
Congratulations Mary Catherine! That is so exciting. I know you must be so happy to have made the team after those hard tryouts. Have fun eating all that chewy candy!
Mary Catherine, I am so happy for you. That is wonderful! I hope your parents will tape you in action so I can watch it the next time I come to town. I was a cheerleader at the Lion's Club when I was little and Uncle Robbie played football. I got to wear my uniform white button down shirt with a red skirt that was lined in white that my friend, Linda's mother made plus the little red panties to match the skirt. I also wore white ankle socks and white Keds. Here is a cheer for you that I remember: "Pork chop, pork chop - greasy, greasy. We're going to beat you easy, easy! Yea team - go Lions!!" Have fun, Mary Catherine. I am proud of you!
Congratulations Mary! I'm so excited for you! I know you've been working really hard. Your going to bring great talent to that squad! I can't wait to see you in action! You can count on me to come and see your performances! Have fun with all that candy and gum!!!
I bet those judges that deemed you unworthy of the dance team will rue the day when they see you in action, Mary Catherine. I just knew something better would come along and it did. Cheerleaders are much more active, were always more popular than dance team girls when I was in high school, and you are going to be excellent. Your smile is beautiful.
Hey, Sue, I was with you as a cheerleader. I recalled another one
Lemonade(clap, clap)
Crushed ice (clap,clap)
Hit 'em once (clap, clap)
Hit 'em twice (clap, clap)
You can hit 'em in the bottom
YOu can hit 'em at the top
You can hit 'em in the middle
And watch them flop. (and then fall back into someone's waiting arms)
Yay, Lions!!!
Mary Catherine, if you need a demonstration of how to do the candlestick hands for this, just let me know. And just for the record, I don't advocate violence.
