Star Wars

Scott and I went to see Star Wars today. We went to the Palace in Hammond. We timed it perfectly. There was a very long line inside, but not at the ticket counter. We pre-ordered, but needed to use the machine to get our tickets. The machine was broken so we had to go to the ticket window. It would have really made us mad if we would have had to stand in line. Anyway, we arrived an hour early and were already having to stand in a second group. I went to the bathroom and when I came out the whole group had gone through the line. I had to run to catch up with Scott. We got great seats. It couldn't have been any more perfect. Scott and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but felt compelled to pick it apart anyway. I am very glad that Joe was not allowed to go. I don't think I will even allow him to see it on DVD when it comes out. He is very, very sensitive and I don't think he could handle the violence. His friend, Conner, was in the row in front of us and didn't even blink through the whole movie. He loved it. His big sister (who is in 5th grade) cried and cried through some of the violent scenes, however. I think parents just have to judge for themselves whether it is appropriate or not for their children. I agree with Christina that it is pretty crappy to market merchandise for children when it is not appropriate for them to see the movie. Burger King certainly isn't selling their kid's meal with Star Wars toys to the above 13 crowd. I thought the movie tied all of the original movies together very well. I recently watched the three original movies and was really glad I did. I do wish I had watched the last one recently, but I really didn't like the actor who played Anakin very much. He bugged me and made the movie less fun. I had trouble getting past it. I think I would have enjoyed this movie so much more if I had liked the Anakin actor better. When Scott and I re-watched the original ones, we decided that the acting wasn't all that great, either. However, my 13 year old self thought Luke Skywalker and Han Solo were very FOXY!! My 40 year old self doesn't think much of Anakin.

Glad to see you know how to "copy and paste". I haven't seen any of the new Star Wars films. I may some day, I may not. I have yet to hear anything about them that makes me want to see them. I have the original three on VHS and have no desire to ever see any of them again, either. I guess I've simply lost interest. Now, Indiana Jones next year? That's for me.

What about Indiana Jones? Are they making another one of those and will Harrison Ford be in it? I can't wait to see Star Wars. I need to see the first three so that I can re-live it. I've seen the last one recently so don't need to see that again.

Harrison Ford, Steven Speilberg, and George Lucas are all onboard. I don't think they have a script yet.

Indiana Jones 4

Glad for the heads up on the violence, which I don't like. I don't get to movies very much at all and am not interested in "Star Wars" that much. Elizabeth didn't mention how she and I sat in front of the theater in her van this past Thursday, keeping in phone contact with Jimmy and Aaron who were waiting to see if they could get one of the 40 seats left for the opening of the movie at the 6:45 showing. The guy in front of them bought the last 3 tickets. That was disappointing after the anticipation, guessing, and waiting for 45 minutes only to get so close to getting in.

I spent a productive day yesterday; dishes, laundry, minor help with putting up a gate to our driveway to keep out the many 4-wheelers that made it their route, Wal-Mart shopping, fried catfish for supper, shuttle service to pick up kids that spent the night out. That last part has been going on almost every Saturday night for the past month. One of these days, I am getting the man to take me to a movie. The last time we did that it was his choice because it was special that we were going to see a movie. I feel like I wasted the one time it wasn't a kids' movie with "Meet the Fokkers". I watched Michael watch the movie. It was silly.

I got to sit in front of the t.v. around 8pm to watch surfers in Hawaii take on the biggest waves on record, from Jan. 28 1998. An IMAX cameraman in a helicopter caught the surfers on video. That was incredible. And very dangerous of them to go into waters they described as black. The swells were immense.

Well...David & I both went to the 12:01am showing of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in our respective areas of Georgia. I was in Milledgeville and he was at home in Atlanta. A group of seven of us met at a friend's place and had some BBQ and watched Episode II before going to the first showing of the newest edition. Like most people, I got bored with the most recent movies and even found them painful to sit through. I watched Episode I the night before and held the remote in hand so I could fast forward to the good parts (the pod race, fight with Darth Maul, and that is about it)...

Anyway, I thought Episode III was AMAZING!!! I loved every minute. The papers critisized it for still having painful moments between Anakin and Padame, but they were nothing compared to the previous episode. The fight scenes of coarse were great, however I did think Anakin's transformation to the dark side was too condensed...which is why Lucas should have made Episodes I & II a whole lot shorter and made Episode III the main thing. But that is just me.

All in all, I thought the movie was great. It had its weak spots, but overall it was a great ending (especially compared to the other prequals).

I am currently in the process of convincing Kellie to see ALL of the movies. I have not decided where to start though. Do we go in numerical order or the order in which they came out? Decisions decisions.

Stephen, Kellie needs to see the original three movies first and then the three new ones. I totally agree that Anakin's move to the dark side was entirely too condensed. Have you noticed in the new DVD version of Return of the Jedi, George Lucas has replaced the original actor who portrayed the redeemed Darth Vader with the new guy? However, he didn't replace the original Obi Wan Kanobi with the new Obi Wan Kanobi. Do you watch the cartoons? I didn't even know they existed. Jimmy was telling me all about Grevious's injury and the reason he sounds a little like Darth Vader-evidently it is all explained in the cartoons. One other criticism Uncle Scott has is the uneven way the force is used by the Jedi. While watching the movie,he is forever coaching them to use the force to lift things, do things, etc. I enjoyed them, but the first three are still my favorite....with Empire Strikes Back my first choice.

My children never cease to amaze me. Who knew this about Elizabeth? Whoever saw this side of her?

Brian saw it last Friday night with 9 of his friends. Danny and I went last night. The 3 of us are big Star Wars fans. I tried my best to get Paul to watch the other 5 with us to no avail. He just doesn't care for it. Danny and I both loved it. Danny got a lot of the new toys for his birthday in April (Star Wars themed sleepover, what else?). I have now seen General Grievous' wheelbike in action along with the ARC-170 fighter and the buzz droids. My life according to Danny is complete.

I had no high expectations of the film. I just wanted to see how they tied episodes 2 and 4 together. The only part I didn't understand is when Yoda told Obi Wan, who was headed to Tattoine to deliver Luke to Owen and Beru (sp?) that he could commune with Qui Gon Jin. Huh?

There was a huge crowd at the theater last week before the midnight showing. They started lining up at daybreak even though they already had purchased their tickets. The cameramen went through the crowd and I got such a kick out of the people who uttered disclaimers that this wasn't a group of "Trekkies" but of real Star Wars fans -- a totally different sort of people said the man in the Darth Vader costume! After reading all of the above comments, I have to wonder if the Star Wars folks can truly sneer at the Star Trek folks. Looks like one and the same to me, but what do I know. I only saw the first one, which I now have learned is actually the fourth. I do hope someone will answer Laura's question of Qui Gon Jin. Anyone?

Laura,
Qui Gon learned how to overcome death and becoming "one" witht the force...in doing so he was able to communicate with the living. When Yoda taught Obi Wan how to communicate with him, it allowed Obi Wan to do the same in Episode IV after being struck down by Darth Vader. That is what I got out of it anyway... My only thing is...why didn't Qui Gon disappear like Obi Wan and Yoda did at death?

Laura, I agree with Stephen. I believe Yoda meant for Obi Wan to learn how to communicate from beyond like he did in the original episode and then later when he was forever coaching Luke. Stephen, Uncle Scott and I both noticed the disappearing trick and wondered about that, too. Uncle Scott also pointed out to me how Yoda is 900 years old but really ages a lot in the 17 years after he goes into exile. He also thinks Obi Wan ages a lot in 17 years (check out the original Obi Wan). He also wants to know why it took 17 years to build the original death star but no time to have that second one up and running. I confess I can't even remember the second one. I have not committed the movies to memory like Jimmy and Scott. Having just seen Return of the Jedi a few weeks ago, I remember Luke asking Leia (sp?) if she remembered her mother (I assumed at the time--their mother). She said that she did have some memories of her. I now know that it must have been her foster mother. I love how all of the loose ends were wrapped up.

Mama, I am a Star Trek fan as well. However, I don't like ANYTHING enough to wait all day or days in line.

SUE,PATRICK AND I WENT TO SEE STARWARS THIS (HOLIDAY) WEEKEND AND WE WALKED RIGHT INSIDE. NO LINE NO WAIT..GOTTA LOVE THESE COUNTRY THEATERS....

But wait. Surely you have another thousand words to describe the movie, your impressons, your hopes for the future, your personal interpretations, your favorite character from this one and number five, your questions, your moral virtue, your ..... Come on. Didn't all the above teach you anything?
