I really didn't want to post this picture on the blog but I wasn't able to paste it in a comment. Angela - this is for you. I used this sling with all five of my kids and wouldn't think of taking care of another baby without one. It not only carries the baby leaving your two hands free - they love facing out, but it is great for your back, making you stand up straight. I once carried Hamzah for six hours at the State Fair. Let me know and I can make you one or you or one your seamstess sisters can make it in no time flat. I have step by step pictures of how to tie it as well.

That's a pretty fancy entry, Janice. Good job.
Nice picture, Janice. Hamzah was a beautiful baby.
We had two papooses that were floating around this family that were similar to yours. The baby could face either way. I spent many a day doing everything with a baby attached to me like that. For outings, I had an umbrella stroller with Aaron in it, put the diaper bag over the handle, Julia in the papoose - facing out usually, and we made tracks. The wagon eventually became our getting around vehicle with multi-purposes, but that papoose was invaluable in the babies first year. I loved how being a Mom brought out my resourcefulness.
Angela, carrying that car seat/infa seat has got to go. That thing is heavy. Where's the papoose? We had that discussion, but I don't recall the answer.
I have a Baby Bjorn that does the same thing and he does well in it. We use it often when taking walks. I don't love to use it while walking around the house because I prefer to hold him facing out on my hip. He likes it like that. I only have the use of one arm, but I am able to maneuver him so that I don't run into things with him. When I first started using the Baby Bjorn I would run him into the sink every time I went to wash my hands. I like being able to shift him. However, when I have to go somewhere in the car, he has to be strapped to his car seat. So I have to be able to carry it out of the house into the car. Eventually I'll just carry him and leave the car seat in the car.
Janine and Angela I'm going to toot my own horn a little. The sling pictured is actually one long piece about six yards long. The difference between this one and any others that I have tried is that it does not dig into your shoulders and once you get used to it is very, very easy to use. For a time I use to make them and sell them - the idea is originally from the Philippines.
Oh, by the way that is not Hamzah. It was taken last year with my friend's baby, Mustafa.
