We’re back from Destin, FL where we had a fabulous time at the beach. Our condo was very spacious and in a good location. Jackson and Jacob both loved playing in the surf. We were very aware the whole time we were playing that sharks were lurking somewhere in the water, but the draw of the waves was too much. It’s so much fun body surfing and using boogie boards to catch waves! There was some excitement one morning when my sister went out on the beach. Right when she got there the lifeguard and others were running up and down the beach yelling at people that there had been a shark sighted and to get out of the water. But then shortly after that someone came around saying that it had been a manatee. That little scare didn’t keep us out of the water. We had great weather the whole time. Samuel was a good boy for most of the trip. He doesn’t do very well in the car. He will sleep for about 30 minutes at a time and then cry for the rest of the time. Needless to say, we stopped often and I nursed often. He put his toes in the Gulf for about a minute. He loved sitting on the beach in the late afternoon with the wind blowing on him. He would talk and squeal every time. Joey’s mom and dad and brothers were also there in another condo so I had a full-time nanny at my disposal. Samuel is the first grandchild on Joey’s side and his mother can’t get enough of him. She spent some time up in the condo with him, which was nice because I didn’t relish the idea of having him down in the sun and sand for too long. We bought a little tent for Samuel to stay under that worked out great.

Great pics, Angela. Looks like a fine time.
I talked to Jacob this morning. He was telling me about the pool and the Gulf of Mexico and how they didn't go far out where the sharks were. He also said he doesn't know where he caught his cough from.
Your pictures and details renew my interest in having my day in the sun. I want a long weekend in Gulf Shores, though Sue's description of her days at the beach last month made me waver on that. They had choppy surf and couldn't go in. Patrick was only allowed to go in to his ankles and still managed to get stung by a jellyfish. He witnessed a little boy struggling in the surf and alerted Scott, who got the life-guard's attention and then with another father pulled the boy to safety.
What did Jackson eat before that happy picture?
Those are wonderful pictures. I loved your story of life in Destin. It really sounded like a fun weekend. Stephen used to hate seeing his car seat and would stiffen up when Sue went to put him in. That was because she was trying to see everything there was to see before they left England and were always on their way to somewhere. I don't know how she corrected it, or if she even tried, but maybe you could ask if she knows of a way for you to get Samuel happy about being on the go. Because you know you can't give in. He's got to yield to you. You just need to find out how that's done.
Jackson hadn't eaten anything Janine, why do you ask? That picture was taken around 9pm and we hadn't had supper yet. We were waiting for a ferry to take us over to the village so we could eat. The village was packed and it was another hour before we ate.
The boys were such troopers. It didn't hurt that Joey's brothers turned out to be such good playmates. Each one of them played and entertained the boys. Their girlfriends played and entertained them too! I'll go on a vacation with the Hunter boys any day! I was able to leave Jacob with Joey's mom for afternoon naps each day. We had a great time. Samuel is going to be spoiled with a lot of attention from those uncles.
I swore up and down before we went that we would not go in the water, I even told the boys about the shark attacks so they wouldn't want to go in. But, as my sister said, the lure of the waves was too much.
Looks and sounds like you had a great time! I wondered if any of you had traveled to Destin as I've heard it's a favorite spot for your family---glad the sharks stories didn't spoil your trip. Great tent for babies or those others who may have had enough sun for the day.
I was thinking about you all going to Destin and wondering if you had made your trip yet this year. Glad to hear no shark bites.
Eric and Murphy and I spent a lovely 4 days at the cabin along with PJ, Terri, Maddie and Isabel. PJ and Terri brought their boat, so the girls and Eric had their annual tube-athon trying to see who could knock whom from their tube. Eric, on the lighter water craft, was rolled across a few feet of water as he was thrown from his tube. No injuries and he was back on for more antics. It was lovely weather and hard to return to the "real" life. But it's nice to have Murphy back on a schedule and sleeping and eating at normal hours. I'm sure both you and Christina can relate.
Samuel sounds like such a little trooper. Did he like the water? Murphy has yet to step into the water. Although, I imagine the ocean is a lot warmer than the cold MN lake. It's so unfortunate that she doesn't like the water because she looks so cute in her little swimsuit.
Samuel loves his baths, but didn't really like swimming too much. The pool at the condo was so nice. It was like bath water so I thought maybe Samuel would like it a little better, but not too much.
What looked like an ice cream treat gone bad turns out to be dinosaurs on Jackson's shirt as Julia reminded me. Then I remembered how his shirt looks in person. How fun, though. I hope Hurricane Dennis doesn't do anymore damage to the coast, just in case I get my holiday.
