High Fidelity

Kind of in a posting mood today. Something Kitty said made me think of High Fidelity. If you’ve never seen this movie, go down to your video store and rent it or set your TiVo to record it. I really don’t think you’ll like it much, Mom, but I think most everyone else who reads this would or already has. It is probably John Cusack’s last decent film and it is easily the best one he’s been in but not particularly because of him. The other characters make the movie, particularly the two lovable losers who work for Cusack at the record store played by Todd Louiso and Jack Black. There’s an exchange between Rob (Cusack) and one of them that goes like this:

Dick: “I guess it looks as if you’re reorganizing your records, um, what’s this? Chronological?”

Rob: “No.”

Dick: “Not alphabetical.”

Rob: “Nope.”

Dick: “What?”

Rob: “Autobiographical.”

Dick: “No ****ing way!”

Rob: “Yep, I can tell you how I got from Deep Purple to Howling Wolf in just 25 moves.”

That still cracks me up.

I don't quite get that exchange and I did see the movie. I don't remember loving it. Isn't Lisa Bonet in it? I really don't remember much about it. I am a huge John Cusack fan though.

Yes, Lisa Bonet was in it as was Catherine Zeta-Jones. They both played former girlfriends of Rob.

To me, that exchange was funny because its thoroughly absurd to try to sort your records that way but its even more absurd for someone else to care about it as if it was some philosophical accomplishment. His reaction to "Autobiographical" was priceless.

I saw that movie because of the hype. It was lost on me. I like John Cusack too, but I think he likes himself even more. I like his sister, Joan, and just about anything she is in.

We girls and Mama, all saw the movie together at the theatre. It was someone's birthday. The twins or mine I think. I love John Cusack too, but I was very bored with this movie. Maybe if I saw it on video at home I might have liked it better. It's not on the top of my list to see again. Maybe one day.

The Jack Bull is one of my favorite John Cusack movies. I also love Joan! My all time favorite role of hers is the one from Working Girl. She was so funny!

Joan was perfect in Working Girl. She was also good with John in Grosse Pointe Blank.

Robbie, I was thoroughly bored with that movie and couldn't wait to get out of there. I don't remember much about it at all. I do remember thinking the best part of the movie was with the guys in the record store. I think there was a scene where Jack Black refused to sell a record to someone because they weren't true fans or something.

It seems I'm the lone voice of reason here in Family Blog Cyberspace. Wonder where my taste in movies comes from. With some exceptions, I don't particularly like old movies like Dad did and Patsy does. Mom and I don't agree on too many movies and Sue and I might have agreed on a movie once.
