I just finished walking Ray two miles in the neighborhood - just like old times. I brushed him after our walk and then gave him a treat. He seems to be just fine. The animal control officer has called Scott every other week since Ray got in the fight with the raccoon, on June 27th, to check on his status. He told Scott that the time in quarantine is doubled just to be safe. We are relieved he is okay.

Great news, Sue.
I had no idea you would brush him after a walk. Delightful. And then a treat! What's next do you suppose? Up on the sofa? I think it's wonderful that you and Ray have bonded in your daily walks. Statistics show that pet owners live longer, healthier lives.
And I forgot to mention they are prettier as well.
I guess never say never because I can hardly believe that you like a dog much less walk with Ray, brush Ray (which I guess involves touching him)and give him a treat!!!! Even your children wouldn't have gotten a treat for taking a walk with you.:0)
I am glad that he is o.k. though. I know how hard it is to lose a pet.
Poor Ray. I am very glad he is better and getting to interact in the world again. It warms my heart that you brushed your dog. Wonders never cease...
My pets are dear friends and companions to me. Franklin, the cat, valiantly charged a yellow lab who wandered into our yard - claiming a few trees and bushes, which made Chip mad. Chip was on the job of protecting and defending, but Franklin arched and hissed at the dog after running across the front yard. Foolish, yet brave. That marauding dog's tail was constantly wagging. He meant no harm.
Yes, but did he get out of there? Did they run him off with their display of valor? I wish I could have seen the little black and white cat make that run across the yard. I don't suppose he knew he looked funny. I'm glad the trespasser didn't take offense at a charging cat and a defensive dog.
