Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! I did my food prep last night so I can have a morning of relaxation and pet care. A bath for Miss Daisy before we go to Joan's for dinner and cage cleaning for the parakeets. They're both moulting so I guess a quick vac is needed also.
This year I was in charge of the cranberry/orange relish, cherry chiffon and three pies. I made Pumpkin, Apple and Turtle. I cheated with the apple pie because my apple peeler/corer/slicer died on me. I admit it, I used canned apples but doctored them up so maybe noone will notice? We'll be a small group at Joan's this year. The 4 of us plus Mom and Joan, Ed, Mark and Mark's girlfriend Colleen. Beth has to be to work at 5 a.m. on Friday and this year wants to take it easy on herself so she's staying home. Mike and his family rotate years between Joan's and Jodi's sister's home.
Joan has Grandma & Grandpa Tompkins' old dining room table and buffet. I wonder how many Thanksgiving dinners it has had laid upon it? Aunt Ginnie, do you remember what year they bought it?

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Laura. Your apple secret is safe with us here on the World Wide Web.
They bought the dining room set from Uncle Puzzy and Aunt Alice when they moved from their farm in Glencoe to a house in St. Louis Park. I think -- but would never be sure -- that it would be in the late forties or early fifties. Ann Backen would be the one to know that. I wonder if you remember Grandma's house at 4001 Ewing, Laura? It had the most beautiful oak moulding, woodwork, and built-in china closets and the dining room table and buffet matched it exactly. It was beautiful furniture and built to last. The O'Connells were married in 1939, but I don't know if the set was new then or something that her folks had in their house and passed on to her. But we know that it's at least 66 years old.
Laura -- One more piece of information regarding the dining room set: they paid $50 for the entire package!
