Katie was Christmas shopping at the Esplanade yesterday. She asked me if I wanted to see that movie I had talked about -- Syriana -- and I said yes, I did. She ate red beans and rice with me, contributing the bread and dessert, and then we went to the 7:10 movie at the Elmwood Palace. I had read the review of the movie after I saw George Clooney with Jay Leno and the review wasn't good. Said the writers didn't know how to complete a thought or a scene and so just dropped the ball and went to something else. That was true. We hardly ever knew who was being talked about, or the reason for the stalking, or why there was an explosion there. She didn't like it at all. I did, for some reason. But I would never tell anyone to see it. There were some wonderful scenes and wonderful dialogues but you had to take them as individual vignettes and not worry about really catching on to the why and wherefore. But if you do go to see it, tell me what you think.

I don't intend to see it until it comes to Pay-Per-View.
My sister and I and a couple of friends saw The Family Stone. It wasn't good. Who said it was a comedy?? At least the promos did. It wasn't. It was high drama and a tear jearker. And it wasn't any good. I hate that. I was really looking forward to it. Luke Wilson provided the only comic relief and he's not too bad to look at either! Sarah Jessica Parker reprised her "Carrie" role from Sex and the City. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to see her as anything else.
Darn, I really wanted to see The Family Stone. I love Sarah Jessica and Luke Wilson and Diane Keaton, although her movies can be fluff sometimes. Eric and I get to movies so infrequently these days, so I need to pick them wisely. The last one we saw was Shop Girl and I wish I could have had that time returned to me. Eric loved The Spanish Prisoner and we thought this would be another Steve Martin performance reminiscent of that. But I thought the story line was weak and therefore didn't do much for his acting. Don't like to waste a perfectly good babysitter on a cruddy movie.
Would also like to see Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter, but that's 2 babysitters, so not sure if that will happen either. Anyone want to give their thoughts now, so I don't waste my evenings out?
Yes on Harry Potter.
I saw both movies and as a fellow baby-sitter saver, I would have to say that Harry Potter is a must on the big screen, but since I haven't read the Narnia series and don't have the same affinity for it, I would say wait for that one on DVD. Joey and I went on a double date with friends who are big fans of the series and we really felt like we wasted our babysitter. We thoroughly enjoyed the company and the night out, but wished we could have seen something more adult.
I have seen both of them and I have to say I probably enjoyed Harry Potter more, only because I have read the books. I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe a long time ago but I didn't remember it very well. I enjoyed it though. It is more of a children's movie and at some points, kind of cheesy.
