I had surgery yesterday to remove a bit of a bulge I had on my left elbow. It didn’t hurt but it was a tad unsightly. To me, anyway. Most people never saw it until I pointed it out. In fact, the nurse who prepped me yesterday didn’t see it and she knew which elbow was going to be operated on. The bulge was caused by blood which was the result of an injury to my elbow. I don’t remember injuring my elbow but that’s not uncommon for me. Unless it stops me from what I’m doing, I don’t remember minor injuries. The orthopaedic surgeon drained it and gave me a shot of cortisone once but it came back in a few weeks. When he saw it the second time, he said I could live with it or he could perform a minor surgery. Just a small incision with “a little novocaine” is what he said. I took that to mean I’d be sitting in a chair looking away as he sliced open my elbow. It was a little more involved than that. He used general anaesthesia on me and “a little novocaine” on my elbow. Anyway, I’m told it went well. I have a pressure bandage on my arm that’s making that arm feel very heavy and I have some restriction of motion but I feel fine. I hope it worked. Among the many waivers you sign before surgery is one that says the surgery may not achieve the desired results.

A few years back I had a "loose body" removal from my left elbow. The surgery itself was fine as was the physical therapy during the few weeks after. The two appointments prior to the surgery with the owie-owie it hurts scope was another story.
I had another one removed years ago from my right foot. I have one now on my left kneecap that's visible and has been for about 10 years. They won't remove that one unless it causes great pain and suffering. I'm used to it now, just can't kneel on my left knee.
Glad to hear it went well for you Rob. Hopefully this will be the end of it for you.
Yeah, loose bodies are fun. I had some removed from my left knee some years ago, woke up during the surgery to hear the surgeon plunking the things into one of those dishes they use, and hearing one of the staff commenting on how much arthritis I have for such a young man. I waited until I couldn't stand it any more. Good Luck with that.
Glad to hear everything went well.
Rob,
I hope your recovery goes well! This isn't the arm from Grandma Tompkins' ringer-washing machine, is it?
You remember that, Dan? I don't know which arm it was. You'd have to ask Mom. Mom?
It was your right arm. For years you had a bulge which to me looked like the meat of your arm had been pushed up to around your elbow. There was a red mark from wrist to elbow on the inside of your arm, and then the pad of meat. I have no idea how a doctor would analyze that bulge, but that's what I thought. And that lasted a long, long time, but I can't remember when it disappeared. Or wait. Did it disappear? And Dan. How did you remember that? I don't remember anyone ever talking about it, but maybe ever after you children were warned not to fool with that washing machine because look what happened to your cousin.
