Hubig's Pies

Hubig's Pies

So I stopped at the Pearl River Shell station to fill up tonight. There was a welcome sight on one of their shelves that has been empty for several months: Hubig’s Pies. These are a New Orleans institution and I’ve been missing them since Hurricane Katrina damaged their bakery. They’re back in production now although the first place I tried earlier this week was sold out. I grew up on these. They’re sold everywhere in the Greater New Orleans area. I’ve even seen them at hardware stores. They’re delicious and they really knock the edge off if you’re hungry. I started on their apple pies as a kid but in my search for one at some store, I came across the last pie on their shelf. It was a pineapple pie just like the ones you see pictured above. The buying public really did save the best for last. That pie converted me to pineapple and that is all I buy now. I was so astounded to find five of them on that shelf at the Shell station tonight that I bought all of them. I’m not sure what happened to those other two. They disappeared somewhere between Pearl River and Bush.

Coconut is the only way to fly! The sandwich shop downstairs said the pie guy stopped by unannounced earlier this week and dropped off a box--by the time I saw them, only two lemon pies were there. No thanks.

I haven't had one in years and years and years, but apple is the only one I would even consider back then and still today. There was a big story in the paper about their return.

I can't help myself - I feel I have to comment on the Hubigs Pies. I get so excited when I see something is coming back. I am stuck in Houston, Texas still and any piece of home is a welcome site!!!! I'm with Ms. Ginnie - apple is the best way to go but I can't imagine that I wouldn't like any of them. Even though I rarely eat them any more although I still love them I think I will have to get one just because next time I'm home!!!!! Of course, it is King Cake season - my favorite season so I am concentrating on that right now. Thanks Robbie for posting a little piece of home - I enjoyed just seeing the picture.

Barbara -- what are you doing in Houston? I'm not sure I had heard about your evacuation. I suppose your job transferred over and that's why you haven't come back yet? What about your property? It was okay, wasn't it? I didn't think your area had much damage. Send us your address in Houston and Robbie will send you a Hubigs Pie! Ms. Ginnie

Hey Yall it's Joey. I had to make a post about these pies, I eat one at least 4 times a week for breakfest. I am with Mrs. Ginnie and Barbara, apple is the only way to go. They are finally back at the Discout Zone across the street from my store. It's funny the things you miss, when I saw them at the store for the first time about 2 weeks ago, it was a big deal for all the people at the store.
