My brother Mike celebrates Groundhog's Day. He prefers it over the other holidays because there are no obligations tied to it, no shopping, no family get-togethers, etc. I sent him an e-card this morning, his response:
Thanks so much for the ecard. I really appreciate your efforts on this festive occasion. I really don't know if I can talk Jodi into it, but I am considering ripping up my front yard and putting a large scale habi-trail system in. I can aquire a groundhog easily enough, but don't really know if they can eat through PVC pipe. Been checking on the web but haven't found much info regarding this. I could have a domed top on it and we could pull up lawn chairs in the predawn hours & sit and wait to see how much more winter we are going to have. Still working on a lot of issues with this.
Anyway have a wonderful Groundhog Day and drink lots of Brown Beer,
Mike

Happy Groundhog Day from me, too. To ALL of our readers here. I think Mike should do it.
That is so funny! Ashley and a couple of her friends decided to celebrate the festive day as well. They got all dressed up, went to a movie after school, and then went to dinner at a nice restaurant in Maple Grove. She was postively giddy in prepartion for the day. It was fun to watch! So happy belated Ground Hogs Day! Carol
I introduced Ground Hog Day to my students where I am student teaching. I put it in the morning message and asked how many legs do you think a ground hog has? Only one out of 15 knew the answer and knew what the animal was. I brought pictures from the internet and from my front yard when Aminah caught one investigating out newly downed tree. As you may well have guessed, I have a very diverse classroom, Hmong, African, Spanish, Somali, and African American.
What's a Hmong? My knowledge of geography was always funky.
I love that movie, "Groundhog's Day." Besides his dumb look, Bill Murray can also show apathy and frustration.
