20 years ago today

It seems like yesterday and it seems like a lifetime ago.

I have been thinking lately how some of Dad's traits and characteristics were passed on not only to us, his children but also to his grandchildren. I see a lot of him in Brian. The infectious laugh that Dad had, you all know which one I'm talking about because Aunt Ginnie, Aunt Catherine and Uncle Pat all have the same one.

I also remember a lot of warmth and a lot of silliness. That's a great combination. Miss you Dad.

I remember the warmth and silliness. I think they all got their laugh from Grandma Tompkins.

I see none of the Tompkins genes in my kids; especially that certain twinkle in the eyes as they might be laughing at a private joke about you.

Uncle Mark always reminded me of Grandpa T. May he rest in peace. Both of them.

Twenty years. My my my. It goes by fast, doesn't it? He used to test our mother's wit with slightly risque jokes. She used to pretend to be offended and he'd laugh, knowing she wasn't. He always has a joke up his sleeve, she used to say, and did so appreciate his daily phone calls. She called him "Micky Rob" when he was a young boy. I wonder if you children knew that?

I never heard of Dad being called Micky Rob! I do remember him being called Charlie. I remember his laugh and giggles. Miss you dad.

Laura,
I have one very fond memory of Uncle Mark. We were visiting when I was about 8 years old. I think it was the 4th of July. We were at your house all day. We ate outside in the backyard. It was a beautiful day. We went to a nearby lake or park. On the way home, I walked side by side with your daddy. He was so nice to me. I hadn't really talked to him before. I remember being amazed at how long his legs were. I think they reached the top of my head. I had to run to keep up with him. He always reminded me of Grandpa.
