British Virgin Islands

Dan and I (along with two other couples) charted a boat in the British Virgin Islands last week. We had a wonderful vacation on the water! We snorkeled and saw some amazing sights; an octopus, some sting rays, sea turtles and numerous colorful fish. We started out of Tortola, BVI and went to various islands around Tortola. Each island was unique and interesting. It was a very casual way of traveling. My feet didn't want to be bound in socks today after being bare foot for a week! What a dream vacation! Ashley and Nicole were well tended to with Dan's mom in Florida. Now back to reality. Carol

Carol -- What a lucky girl you are. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. Is the water color really turquoise or is that just in pictures? Did you eat on the boat as well as sleep? Or did you go with the local cuisine and how was it, if you did?

I am sooo... jealous! I can't wait to get out to a beach with some beautiful water, even if it is in Destin, FL.

I, too, am soooo jealous!!! The pictures are so gorgeous! How fun! I hope Scott takes me someplace like that for my 20th anniversary next year!

It was absolutely gorgeous! The water was indeed that blue/turquoise! I know how very fortunate I am to have been able to go on such a trip and both Dan and I loved it so much we may just go back some day. We ate on the boat and at various restaurants. I don't like seafood or fish so I'm a poor one to ask about food. However, the rest of the crew loved the various food choices. Lots of different spices. I did have chicken with some different spices and for me that's a stretch, but it was good. Dan had some conch appetizers one night and had an allergic reaction to it; getting sick to his stomach and was miserable the rest of the night and into the next morning. He did take some medicine that helped but it just had to work it's way through his system. Dan was the captain and did a fine job of navigating the waters and various anchorages. Carol

What's with the sun and fun vacations? I, too, am envious. Are they postcards? I will have to look on my globe for the BVI location. I am not great at geography, I'll admit. I know where Florida is. Does Dan's Mom have a vacation home there?

Michael and I went to the Bahamas for our honeymoon almost 16 years ago (5/4). We had conch every which way you could have it - and each was nastier than the last. Phooey. Chewy stuff. I like seafood alot, but you can keep that stuff. There were only a couple of restaurants on the island and very little variety. We ate at McD's a few times; Pizza Hut too.

No, Janine those aren't postcards, they are pictures I took and they are even more beautiful in person. There was no McD's or Pizza Hut anywhere near these islands. The only thing common was soda pop. Coke etc.

I can't believe those are real pictures and not postcards. Beautiful shots, Carol. What a paradise. I'd love to go.

Great pixs Carol. Welcome back! I'm glad you're back safe and sound!

Looks like a wonderful vacation! How very nice for you. My friends and I are talking about taking a cruise next year. I think the Virgin Islands will now be at the top of my list! Thanks for sharing.

Great pics Carol! I'm ready to go away again already.
