Thought they were lost

I hadn't seen a robin since last year. Until a few minutes ago. Katrina must have wreaked havoc with their benchmarks and normal stops.

Danny and I saw 2 Robins last Wednesday, 3/1 on our way to the airport. Earlier this year than usual. Looking forward to seeing more soon!

The birds are emptying my feeder every few days. I haven't seen any robins. That guy in your picture looks thin.

Laura -- When I was in the 6th grade, I had a teacher who was a bird lover and watcher and she passed that on to us. One of the things I have engraved in my brain is that the robins return to Minneapolis on March 5. Ever after that, I watched diligently for a robin on that date and I can't remember ever seeing one, but if not, it was soon after. I used to love that sighting because then it was for sure that spring and summer were coming up fast. One of the other things I watched for -- two actually -- was when the ice went out on Lake Calhoun and when I saw my first ant on the sidewalk. Those two things are always mentioned in my diaries from back in the day.

You need to publish a few of those entries here, Mom. Dates and all. It would be such a treasure for any of us to read.
