Da Vinci

We saw The Da Vinci Code yesterday at the 12:45 matinee. The crowd was pretty sparse and there were no protesters. Patsy hates big crowds so that was fine by us. We both read the book recently, knew the story, and I think Ron Howard assumed that most of his audience will have read the book, also. That was probably a safe assumption on his part and also a good idea to stick to it. The film was a faithful adaptation and almost mechanical in its execution. Very few details were left out or changed. I suppose it had to be that way. About the movie (No spoilers allowed here or in the comments): Paul Bettany was perfect as Silas. Hanks was fine as Langdon although I pictured a little younger man in that role. The film missed a perfect, dramatic AHA moment and I was disappointed in that. The locations were exquisite. If you liked the book, you should like the movie. They’re both entertaining.

I loved the book, however, I found the movie tedious toward the end. I think that was because I already knew the story and was tired of being there. We saw an 11:00 pm show and didn't think we would get in because the line for it was the longest I've ever been in and we were at the end. We still got pretty good seats though. Also, the AC was out in our theater which made it somewhat uncomfortable. In my current condition, AC is a necessity! My tennis shoes started to feel tight and uncomfortable toward the end. When I got home I realized why- my feet had swollen from the heat!

Robbie, you'll have to tell me that aha moment you're talking about. I thought the movie was exactly like the book, but I read the book two years ago and my memory for details isn't the greatest.

It could have been a little shorter and my enjoyment of the film might have been different had there been no A/C. I thought you were the person who liked warm weather, though.

Our movie was stopped in the middle because the theatre was having problems with the screen. I agree with Angela though, I thought it was rather slow towards the end. I still think the book is better. I don't think you can portray all the details and the intense suspense of Dan Brown's writing through the movie. I wasn't a big fan of Tom Hanks either.

What is an AHA moment? I am one of the few who has not read the book but I'm interested in the movie. I don't even know what the story is. I just love blockbuster movies! I don't know when I'll get to see it though.

An AHA moment is when everything clicks. When you realized the Bruce Willis character in Sixth Sense was dead, that was an AHA moment.

I had the aha moment early on in "The Da Vinci Code" novel. It kind of made the rest of the book too contrived for my taste. That is what I get for reading so many espionage stories. Consequently, I am not interested in the movie.

I am reading the classic "My Antonia" by Willa Cathers for my next book club meeting. It is turning out to be pretty good, though I am not really far into it.

I haven't read the book yet, started a few pages but got side tracked. Dan took the girls to see it last friday. They all liked it. I am not a Tom Hanks fan so I may wait for the DVD version. Thanks for not spoiling it. Carol

Omar has read the book and seen the movie but is keeping tight lipped until I get a chance to read the book. That won't happen until after June 10th when I take my last praxis test.
Carol - maybe we can see it together. The DVD sounds great. I can come in my pj's and you can pop the popcorn!

I wish I could come watch it with y'all! Janice, you must watch all your movies like I do, in my pj's. Lately, it has to be a really good pick for me to get out to the movies. I LOVE going to the movies but it is so hard getting away. Since I didn't read the book, I probably will wait to see the movie on DVD.
