Yesterday afternoon I was babysitting Jackson and Jacob so that my sister and Phil could attend Corey's graduation in Slidell. They had only been at my house for 30 minutes when Jackson fell out of our boat and split his chin open on our driveway. I knew right away he would need stitches so I called my mother-in-law to come sit with Samuel and then called my sister. They were just passing the hospital where I was planning to take Jackson so Phil dropped her off and she waited for us to get there. Three and a half hours later he came home with 5 stitches and a big smile. He was such a trooper- and so was I! Jacob was so sweet telling him, "Jackson be brave," as we left him at the hospital. I was reminded that the last time Jackson needed stitches I was present for the accident- a mere coincidence I'm sure.

Boys will be boys. Glad it's not all that serious.
I earned my chin scar when I was about eight, sliding on wet grass and tumbling unto a tree stump in my back yard. It was pretty sharp right on the edge, and my chin just opened up. Doctors back then knew all about stitches, but my parents didn't. It had to be either a severed artery or a bone sticking ouf of the flesh! So my chin healed itself, but it looked like scrambled eggs for the longest time.
I'm glad you were okay with all this, Angela. It's probably a good learning experience, what with Samuel growing up and all. Hmmmm?
That was fast work, 3.5 hours. I never used to be nervous about children being around and getting hurt, but I guess I am going to have to start using all the phrases I have heard the old-timers say all of my life:
Watch out, you're going to fall.
Or, get down from there, it isn't safe.
Or, put that down, you could drop it and hurt yourself.
Or, stop running, you will fall and hurt yourself, or worse - bump into somebody and make them fall.
Or, be careful with that, please (while sucking in my breath).
Or, maybe I'll be thinking of new ones to say as the fears arise that somebody is going to get hurt. It happens so fast. I have seen a lot of blood and pain for not being in the medical profession.
That's great that Jackson was a trooper and cute that Jacob told him to be brave.
Never a dull moment eh?! I think my mom and dad must have had the emergency room just bill their credit card directly with all the boys' injuries over the years. Robbie is right, boys will be boys.
Was Christina able to go to the graduation after all? Carol
No, I was not able to go to the graduation. We left the hospital at the same time the graduation was finishing up. We had more drama that night as well as the stitches. Angela dropped us off at our house around 10:15pm (Phil had our car). As I was getting the boys ready for bed, our dog Butch needed to go out so I went to the back door to let him out. I heard something rustle in the plants along the back of the house & Butch took off running & barking. I figured it was a raccoon or cat. AFter about 5 minutes of incessant barking I opened the door to get Butch back in, he wouldn't budge. I went back to attending to the boys & Butch continued to bark. I tried three more times to get him in & he continued to bark & never moved from his spot. I started to get worried there might be a rabid animal out there so I called Phil's brother Raoul to come check it out for me. He lives down the street. As I was waiting for Raoul to show, I watched out the back window to see what Butch was barking at -- I saw an arm shoo him away. I flipped out, ran to the front of the house & called the police. By the time I told them my story, Raoul showed up & intercepted the man in my front yard. I was still on the phone with the police & asked Raoul if that was the man in my back yard. He told Raoul he had been looking for his little dog. (I have a fenced in back yard, with a gate that cannot be opened from the outside unless you reach over & pull the latch). I thought his story was fishy but just as we were talking to him his wife pulled up in a car & picked him up. He said he was a neighbor and he gave us his address. Raoul believed him so I did. I still thought it was fishy though. The police showed up, I told them what happened & where he lives & they decided to go talk to him. Meanwhile, my neighbor comes out and asks what happened & as we're talking about it he wonders why the man would be in my fenced in back yard looking for a dog, how would a dog get into my yard? He told me to go check out my back yard. So I did, & I found our ice chests stacked up under our bathroom window. I called the police back & said I wanted to press charges. They came back to the house & after further investigation, the man had also propped a ladder up against my neighbor's bathroom window.
This has been the scariest thing I've ever had to deal with. I stayed home from work yesterday & Phil & I went to Lowe's to buy things to secure our home better. My back door doesn't lock. He could have come in with no problem. Also, we didn't have blinds on our living room windows yet. They're up now. As far as I know, the man is still in jail. The neighborhood was abuzz last night. Everyone is worried. It's a quiet neighborhood with a lot of kids. It has scared everyone.
I think Butch deserves some extra attention and treats!
I don't understand how the man's wife came into play. How did she know where he was and that he needed a ride?
In any event, that had to be terrifying for you, Christina! Creepy!
CREEPY, CREEPY, CREEPY!!!! I agree that Butch deserves extra treats! I am glad that you didn't back down from your gut feeling and called the police. Once when Dan and I were renting my uncles'house, while building our last house our dog was barking and barking...trying to tell us our car was being stolen! We should've listened. Sometimes those dogs know best. Carol
Butch got his treat in the form of an hour and a half cruise around the neighborhood. He got out right when the police arrived and alluded capture for that long! Maybe he was trying to hunt down the perp.
He also got Phil's leftover steak from Outback when Phil got home!
