Georgia College & State University's Graduate Commencement

Stephen and Kellie received their Master of Arts in Teaching last night. Stephen's is in Secondary Education and Kellie's is in Educational Leadership. It was the first time that a separate ceremony was held for advanced degrees. The first Master's Degree was given at this school in 1959 and the recipient was there last night to receive a hood. She was in her eighties. Her Master's Degree was in Education. She got a standing ovation and it was very special. SInce the ceremony only had 275 graduates, it went really fast. The entire thing was over in one hour and ten minutes. No one complained about that!

Before the ceremony, we ate at Lieu's which is a Chinese restaurant that Stephen used to work at. He's become very good friends with the family. They've made him special things whenever we've eaten there. He was even invited to their family's Chinese New Year's Dinner. This time they made us these pretty rose looking appetizers. I didn't try one becuase it had red beans inside but Scott said you couldn't tell because they were sweet. They also sent out a huge platter of ketchup shrimp which is not on the menu. It was really good. It reminded me a little of a shrimp po-boy. Also, Bob who is the son and Stephen's friend, made origami dragons for each place setting and origami roses in the center.

After the ceremony we went to Stephen and Kellie's house on the lake and had strawberry shortcake. Geraldine made her famous Nonnie cake and Stephen and Kellie prepared the strawberries and whipped cream. We are very proud of both of them for their accomplishments!

On another note - there was a preview in our paper today (Atlanta Journal Constitution) about a 22 part series that is to begin tomorrow called Through Hell and High Water - Inside two hospitals (Tulane and Charity) in New Orleans: The Untold drama of terror and courage, hope and despair. The writer is Jane O. Hansen and you could follow it online, if interested, here.

Congratulations to Kellie and Stephen.

Sue, I LOVE the pictures. Very nice. What a fun, special family time.

Stephen and Kellie, y'all look so cute graduating together. Such the perfect, happy, beautiful couple! So...are y'all done or do I hear ph.d??

A one hour graduation ceremony is unheard of. It is so perfect! It is too bad the rest of them are so long and drawn out! When I got my master's degree, we had an equally large number of master's and undergraduates. Two separate nights would have been a very welcome thing.

Wonderful pictures of everyone. Didn't that year go by fast though? Maybe not for the students, but it just seems such a short time ago we were getting ready for the big wedding.

Congratulations, Stephen and Kellie. I bought your card a month ago and thought I had some TIME to send it to you before your day. Now it comes late and you'll think I'm sending it just because I saw the pictures and am embarrassed. Not so. I think of you every single day and know exactly what you're doing!!

Great pictures. Stephen & Kellie do look cute, in their matching outfits!! Sue, you & Scott don't look too bad yourselves! Can't wait to see everyone next month.

Sue!
Congratulations! What a wonderful point in time.
love,
Paula

Congratulations Kellie and Stephen! Good luck in all of your future endeavors. Seeing your pictures makes me excited for my ceremony! May 12th I gratuate with a BS in Education and a K-8 license with a concentration in LA and Communication. As they say - better late than never.

Congratulations Sue and Scott, you've raised wonderful children, be proud!

I read the first chapter. Did you? It was excellent and I just know I'll enjoy the rest. I wrote a comment, but then when I was told my address would be posted, I decided not to post it. And I can't say why. All I said was something about how much I looked forward to the next chapter and so on; just a line or two. But I didn't want anyone to know it was I. Silly, I know. Maybe later when there are bunches and bunches of comments.

Stephen & Kellie,

CONGRATULATIONS to both of you. How special that you two received your Master's Degrees together. I was just talking to my family about you two this weekend and I had no idea that you were both graduating. I have been a little out of touch for the past 6 1/2 months. I was thinking about your wedding and that it is almost a year and of course it doesn't seem like it and how beautiful a couple you two are.

Congratulations Stephen and Kellie! I had no idea your graduation was so early in May. How lucky for you to be finished now! It's a great accomplishment to have completed before you start a family and your lives get too busy with other demands.

Here, here. Excellent job, Kellie and Stephen. Those smiles are worth a million dollars. Congratulations, both of you. I know you will be awesome teachers to some lucky students.
