Happy Birthday, Mary Catherine
Today is Mary Catherine's birthday. She is 14, or is it 13? I'm pretty sure it's 14. She had a boy/girl dance party last night complete with strobe lights & a karaoke machine. Though, I don't think they used the karaoke machine. Elizabeth said the party was a hit. I have no doubt. When my sister & I were in 7th grade, we had a boy/girl party and Lizzie said she would come home from college to help us entertain our guests. She came late to the party but as soon as she arrived, she brought all the fun. I remember being very anxious, worried she wouldn't come. Our friends really responded to her and she got everyone dancing. All the boys talked about her for weeks after, my cool big sister! I can still see her getting everybody moving. Did you do that last night, Lizzie? Did Mary Catherine's friends think you were as cool as my sister & I & our friends did?
Happy Birthday Mary Catherine. Love, Nanny

Happy, Happy, Mary Catherine
I had Polina and Joe overnight that night, so I saw Elizabeth after the fact. Of course, I'd have to hear Mary Catherine's side, but Elizabeth gave us a summary of the evening. It sounded very fun. That's a cool memory, Christina. I'll have to tell my sister to read it. She said the kids were dancing the whole time. She joined in for the macarenhas (sp?) and MC told her,"bye, Mom." Meaning - "get lost, scram, you're making us uncool." Mary Catherine is 14 now. Happy Birthday, Mary Catherine.
Christina -- What a great memory! I can remember every facet of that birthday party, including your birthday outfits. And I remember all the boys wanting to dance with Elizabeth; I thought her chest, which was just about eye level with those 7th grade boys, was the reason they loved her. Now you tell me it was because she was just so much fun. You are probably right.
Happy Birthday to the beautiful Mary Catherine.
Happy Birthday Mary Catherine! Your birthday party sounded like so much fun. I can't wait to hear all the details from your mother. Now that I am finished school I will be able to call her and catch up on all of your news.
Christina,
What a nice memory! I remember having a good time at your party. I didn't know you were anxious for me to come. I feel very flattered.
Mary Catherine, on the other hand, wanted to make sure that her Daddy and I would be spending plenty of time out of sight. We made rounds about every fifteen minutes or if we hearding unusual screaming or running upstairs.
I used the karaoke machine in the beginning to welcome everyone, lay down the house rules, inform people that I was turning on the house alarm so that there would be no going outside, and then to embarrass Mary Catherine by leading the group in singing Happy Birthday to her.
Yes, she sent me own my way when I dared to stay for a minute while watching the entire room do the macarena--so retro for this group--reminding them of when they were "little".
I think big sisters are always cooler than Moms, Elizabeth. Of course, what do I know about big sisters?
happy birthday mary catherine!
