As you can see we are spending a lot of time in Bayfield, WI this summer. Ashley (at Dan's suggestion/idea) is living up on the boat this summer and working in town. So far so good. Many people thought/think we are crazy for letting her do this, but fortunately, it has been a good experience for her (and us I s'pose). She is learning a lot about herself and that's a good thing. We are going up every weekend and though we miss out on some things in town, it's been fun to be up there. Nicole is working at Dan's shop/business a couple half days a week mowing lawn and other various tasks that need to be done. She also has a great/fun job taking care of our neighbors puppy. They got a lab puppy and since both of them work, they hired Nicole to let the puppy out and play with it each day, mid-day. What a fun job! The puppy is very cute, but actually pretty submissive and mellow for a lab. Wishbone was never mellow, only now at the age of 10 is he slowing down. Nicole is also taking some theater classes later in July so not only will she have the fun of taking the classes, she'll be able to practice driving go to and fro. She has been driving (with me) various places and each time she improves. Gotta work on smooth stops, starts and corners. I'm amazingly more calm (and was with Ashley) than I would've thought. I'm such a control person I was expecting to be a "nervous Nelly" but I'm not which is good. So as you can see June has been a fun and busy month. I wish summer would extend into Septmeber~school just gets in the way of the warm weather fun. Carol

Ashley's staying on the boat by herself? How old is she? When I was her age, I would never stay by myself. I was always scared. In fact, the first two years of my marriage, when Phil would work the late shift, I would fall asleep on the sofa waiting for him and then we'd go to bed together. I was afraid to go into the bedroom & close the door by myself! Plus, I'd always have to have the t.v. on. Wow, I'm impressed.

Wonderful pictures. Does anyone ever go into those caves? I wouldn't, but I know there are people who are more curious/unafraid than I. I'm surprised Ashley went off by herself this summer, but I suppose there are more jobs in a tourist town like Bayfield. And it sounds like Nichole landed a cushy job nearby.

Thanks for the pictures. I love seeing them. Your life looks good. Complete.

I can't believe Ashley wants to stay by herself on a boat. I'm too much of a ninnie to ever do something like that. Of course I would have loved that sort of freedom when I was her age. You're as brave as she is, letting her stay by herself.

Your girls are getting more beautiful each day, Carol. Us Ferrara girls, except Katie, are all ninnies, I think. I love to be alone all day, and most of the night would be okay, but overnight would be a different ballgame. Vulnerability turns into, "what's that noise? Should I call the police?" Or worse, I fear ghosts. I heard too many strange things when I worked in that old theater in downtown Covington. I used to get spooked every night as I did my closing details. I'd make the 16 year old kids stay with me, like they are any protection. It is brave of all of you, especially Ashley, to be so independent.

I loved seeing the pictures, Carol. Thanks for posting them. Your daughters are so industrious. I look forward to the day when Aaron can do the driving. Julia, I'm not so sure of. I may let Michael handle the training. Michael is content to let me do most of the driving when we go places, but he is not content to just sit there and enjoy the ride. He has to harrass me practically the whole time. Julia once told him, "you know Dad? - Mom doesn't drive like this when you aren't in the car."

Carol, beautiful pictures. I share my sisters' sentiment. I can't believe Ashley would even consider staying on the boat all by herself. It is something that I could never consider. In addition, since I have water "issues," it is not something I would ever encourage my people to do.
I have often wondered how my Mama managed to raise such ninnies. I don't ever remember her being scared. As for Katie, she used to be a ninny, but has definitely outgrown it. Janine, you surprise me. I didn't know you were a scaredy cat.
