Anyone going to see A Prairie Home Companion? I've read a few great reviews but then I saw the trailer. I'm drawn to it and I think I can talk Patsy into going to see it next weekend. I like Garrison Keillor and I also like Robert Altman movies. This one looks like it is right in his wheelhouse. I usually don’t like to see this kind of film at the theater. I usually prefer big budget blockbusters at the theater and quieter movies at home but I think I’ll make an exception this time.
Cool video of a Lyrebird. Make sure you listen to the whole thing.

The Lyrebird video was wonderful. I watched and listened and was just amazed at his abilities. The tree cutting was especially good.
Angela and I saw Prairie Home Companion Friday. Have you ever listened to the show? It's on Saturday night and then two or maybe three times more on Sunday. I catch parts of it while I'm in the car because I keep my radio set to NPR and I've always enjoyed it. He's very good as a story teller and he joins in singing with whatever group he brings on. The movie was only about the music of his shows, nothing about the story telling which I think is the better part of his work. The movie was Altman all the way with people talking over each other, mumbling and muttering, people walking around without going anywhere, people interrupting, you get the idea. Parts of it were very funny and very good and parts were just slow and dopey. Woody Harrelson and John C. Riley were cowboy singers and they were funny, very funny. Lindsey Lohan surprised the heck out of me. I am never a fan of Meryl Streep and she didn't disappoint me in this. Lily Tomlin was good. And Garrison Keillor played himself and I think he was good too. Did we like it? Pretty much. Nothing to rave about though. I'll be glad to get your take on it.
Our newspaper gave it a 2-1/2 star review, but I read about five superlative reviews from the internet, so there you go.
It was just OK in my opinion. I lauged at times but did find it tedious in parts.
We finally saw it today at Elmwood. It's not playing anywhere on the NorthShore. We both loved it. We howled at some moments and others in the audience howled at other moments. It was a strange experience.
