Angela, Sue, and I and our families went to Perdido Key, FL last weekend. We were there for a long weekend and it was so nice. We each took a night to cook & the last two nights after dinner the adults hung out in the jacuzzi while the kids swam in the pool. We had a great time.

In other news, I was at the Emergency Room yesterday for the second time in less than a month. This time it was Jacob's turn and he was not going to be outdone by his brother! Jacob got 5 stitches in his right ear (Jackson had 5 stitches in his chin.) He & Jackson had been building tents on the sofa & he slipped & banged his ear on the corner of the coffee table. It bled profusely and as I was trying to clean it well, I tried to get inside the curve of his ear by pulling it toward me and that's when I noticed it was split in two. I told him we had to go to the hospital and Jacob walked out of the bathroom, by now he had stopped crying, and he found Jackson and told him "Jackson, I have to get stitches." He was so calm and he talked through the whole procedure. He didn't once cry. I think he was just happy to be able to compete with his brother now! I'm done. There will be no more injuries this summer. You heard it here first!

Looks like a good time. Glad Jacob is OK I hope Jackson won't feel the need to outdo him.

Lovely pictures. I could have looked at a few more though. I'm glad Jacob came through the stitchery okay.

In our family, I think Sue had the most accidents requiring stitches -- three of them. David had a head wound when he was two that required 28 stitches. Elizabeth had a chin wound that required 3 or 4 stitches. And I'm stretching my brain muscles now, but I can't think of anyone else that had to have a wound stitched up. Robbie broke three of his front teeth when he was six and that was a terrible accident, but no stitches. Katie also broke three front teeth when she was 9 and that too was a terrible accident, but no stitches. Okay, and then, David also broke off his front teeth when he was ten; another terrible accident but no stitches. And I think that was it. Not too bad a record for that many children when you think about it.

Actually the broken teeth were probably the worst of all, never mind there were no stitches, because the correction and treatment took years and is probably still ongoing. Damaged teeth are no fun.

I probably shouldn't forget that Elizabeth had a broken ankle when she was five, and Sue had a broken arm when she was seven. Both of these breaks were so minor and symptom free that they didn't see a doctor right away. We might have waited several days before we decided they weren't going to heal themselves. Maybe.

I just studied the pictures again, and I have to say, does Patrick look like Stephen, or what???

I'll add a little to your memory. I ran my arm through Grandma Tompkins wringer or so I'm told because I don't remember it at all. Probably no stitches, though. Also stepped on a rusty nail and was picked up (Probably for the last time) and carried to the kitchen sink. Don't remember how old I was but I probably got no stitches that time, either. But let's not forget the stitches the oral surgeon put in the roof of my mouth or the stitches the eye surgeon put in my eyelid. I also remember asking Dr McIntyre not to put stitches on my knee for a little gouge I had. He used a butterfly bandage. Also, do you remember him grabbing my infected thumb and slicing it open with his scalpel?

What I remember him doing with your thummb was punching a hole in your thumbnail with a paper clip to drain the infection. I do remember all those other stitches, but what I was thinking of above was accidental injuries that required trips to emergency rooms or doctor's office. So I'm thinking oral surgery doesn't count, painful though it was, nor does eye surgery, nor does a butterfly bandage on the knee, nor the infected thumb. Just re-read your entry and have to comment on the wringer episode. That wringer pushed a whole roll of subcutaneous fat up towards your elbow and that stayed there forever. You probably still bear the mark of that incident, though I couldn't say which arm it would be. Right arm? The rusty nail in the kitchen sink? No, no stitches for that and since you had a good tetanus shot, no doctor visit either. Good soap and water and then probably a dose of alcohol to complete the treatment. I was Doctor Ferrara back then, but occasionally I had to call in my associate who had a weak stomach and didn't really want to know about anything too gory or -- heaven forbid -- smelly. Those were the fun days and we all survived, thank goodness.

Nice pictures. That top one is so colorful and full of happy boys.

That's funny about Jacob's dramatics ending when he had to be brave like he told Jackson to be weeks earlier.

All those stories may have me reconsider my children's getting to do anything fun ever again. I now do a breath-sucking, eye-bugging action when the children are doing anything that could potentially cause broken anything, or visibility to the insides of their body. I am sad to hear of the boys' injuries, but also glad it isn't us.

Florida sounds like a fun vacation. Smokies will be fun too. They have jacuzzis at all the cabins. It doesn't thrill me.
