I have a picture of you, Nancy, in my mind. Five months old. A very beautiful baby. My mother and I were baby sitting. Aunt Mary Pewters was visiting. She could not take her eyes off of you when you were propped up against the arm of the sofa with a sofa pillow holding you in place. This (hate to say this) was in the day of make-do when a baby comes to visit. Grandma did have a crib, hand-made by Uncle Puzzy, and even a high chair, a cast-off from a neighbor, but nothing like an infant carrier of today for a little girl to rest in since she couldn't sit up by herself. But you were perfectly content just sitting there, looking around, smiling endlessly at Aunt Mary. She couldn't get enough of you and every now and then, she would pick you up and squeeze you and hug you and kiss you and my mother and I would smile at you and smile at her and smile at each other. It was a good day for having a baby in the house.
Happy birthday, Nancy (or as Grandma Tompkins called you, Nanny Jo).
On a whim, I checked out July 13, 2005, and guess what? I told the same story. So next year, if I look like I'm launching the Nancy/Aunt Mary story yet again, someone please pinch my nose and shut off my air supply. Two times is okay, but three times might indicate a PROBLEM.
Thanks everyone for all the good wishes. I worked on my birthday---double time!! Aunt Ginnie, I don't recall the story from last year--what does that say about ME and my memory???
Well, I'm still at it. I checked July 13, 2004, and guess what? Another birthday greeting for Nancy, not quite as eloquent or elaborate or lengthy, but still mentioning her "little round head, like a tennis ball." And now I promise to give it a rest forever. The round head stories are finished.
Happy, Happy, Nancy.
Have a Day.
Happy Birthday Nancy, may you have many more!

Happy Birthday, Nancy! I hope it was a good one--even though you were working. Did your co-workers know it was your birthday?
Mama, fun story.
