Friday night, this gang of boys from his school came over from 6-10. I baked a red velvet cake for the occasion. Michael built a bonfire, and I provided hotdogs, chili and cheese, and other dipping things - chips and vegetables. There was a lot of laughter, so I assume they all had a good time. Three mothers showed up early and visited with us in the kitchen. They each brought home cake, so we had none left over. It was nice to get to know other mothers. Aaron does not associate much with kids from school - outside of school. I went to his open house last month and knew noone.
Then, last night, he had Jimmy Soule and his friend, Cal, over to go to video game heaven with. We gave him Harvest Moon for Nintendo 64 - an apparently hard to find game, but reputed to be the best version of it. I know nothing of that stuff. Aaron put it in my "favorites" after looking on-line for it. It would have cost me $75 plus s&h from Amazon. I got it for $42 at a trading place in the Slidell mall, and that salesperson gave us a spiel on how lucky we were to find it. I baked a chocolate cake for the occasion.
Then today for his birthday, he is meeting all of his theatre pals at an afternoon showing of "Employee of the Month". I wonder what he's doing for his birthday tomorrow. I joked that I was baking a carrot cake today for his birthday. He said I already baked him two and didn't need to make another one. I can't believe he thought I was being serious.

Happy Birthday Aaron! It looks and sounds like it was a memorable birthday. Can't believe all these kids are gettin' so old! Glad you had fun too Janine. Carol
Happy, Happy, Aaron.
Happy Belated Birthday Aaron! Looks like you had a good weekend.
Cute picture of Aaron and his friends and cute one of Luke! The dark haired boy standing across from Aaron looks like a young PJ to me.
I agree. He does look like a young P.J. Alec is a very nice boy. He came over a couple of times before. One of the times, he was walking in our woods, and stepped over a coiled moccasin. He lived to tell about it. He told that story to the other boys here, and of course, they had to tempt fate and walk in the woods too.
The boy standing next to Aaron is a Corona, of the Corona beer family. Or, so Aaron was told. His mother was one of the visitors who took home cake. She moved here three years ago when her husband was first diagnosed with a fatal disease. She has family in New Orleans and Gretna. He died right before last years Thanksgiving holidays. It is sad. He left behind three sons - the youngest is now in 6th grade, and the oldest is 20. Aaron's friend, Michael, is also 14.
A sign of Aaron's new maturity: the night he was having his school friends over, I found his stuffed cow, a teddy bear (that mostly I am sentimental about - it's from when he was born from Aunt MaryAnn), and a Spongebob pillow on my closet floor. I guess I'll have to bag, label, and store them. Sigh.
