Ice Storm

Hope everyone was wearing their seat belts...

That's why I don't live where it snows! I would be house bound for the winter months or I would have to be able to afford a chauffer.

I don't think experience driving in icy conditions really means all that much.

I've never seen anything like this. They seem to have a life of their own, floating along, taking their drivers for a ride. I'm with you, Angela. I don't want to live where it snows either - although my friends and families have never let it stop them from getting out and enjoying life.

Ok, I live in the snowy cold areas but we also are used to driving on icy and snowy roads. We know that you never slam on your brakes, we know that you never pump your brakes and we know that if you don't know what you're doing, you don't get behind the wheel.
We take our teenagers over to the local grocery store or Target after closing on a snowy night and teach them how to drive all over again. We have lots of accidents here on the first snowfall of the year. Either people have forgotten their lesson from the previous year or they've just moved to Minnesota.

I am one of the brighter ones (if I dare say so myself). The actual high forecast for the next 3-4 days is zero with -15 lows. Add the windchill factor and you're looking at anywhere from -20 to -50. We leave for Florida on February 16th to thaw out.

If not you, who?

You might run into some of my friends in Florida. They travel in February and March; one goes from January through March. What area do you go to? I think everyone I know goes to the West Florida coast. Do you take the boys with you? I hope you have a wonderful time and I also hope it doesn't rain the whole time you're there. Do you try for a tan? Probably not. You've got too much Tompkins in you I think.

We're just going for another long weekend. The 4 of us are going again. We are staying in Orlando and have tickets for SeaWorld. We'll wing the rest of the entertainment. Probably drive over to Cocoa Beach. We were there for a very brief time 2 years ago after visiting Kennedy Space Center so we want to check out that area again.

I do tan but slowly. I have learned my lesson over and over through the years on tanning/burning. I do end up with a nice bit of color in me but the Florida sun was too much last year. After the weather this weekend, any type of warmup will do!
