This is a scan of Jacob's homework for tonight. His assignment was to review his sight words, choose a word to write a sentence with and then illustrate it. I sent him to his room with his instructions & sight word list. This is his finished product, job was his sight word. I was on the phone with my mom when he came to show me his work and I cracked up. This reminds me of the story from when Stephen was little. Sue & Scott had been in Atlanta for about a year, I think, and Sue was trying to find a job. One morning Stephen woke up and Sue greeted him, with shoes on, and Stephen responded "Mom, you got a job?!" All because she had shoes on, and not her uniform of slippers.

This picture and essay was part of an assignment that Jackson did in school. He had to write about his favorite person. As you can see, he chose his cousin Joe. Jackson & Joe have had a magical relationship since they were about 4 & 5 years old (they're now almost 9 & 10 years old). When they're together, it's a closed society. They are in their own little world, neither can do any wrong in each other's eyes. I don't think I've ever heard them bicker or argue. Jackson is more often a guest at Joe's house, so I don't get to see them interact as much as Elizabeth does. It should be said, however, that she doesn't see them much either as they are often unattended due to their good nature and self sufficiency!!

These are wonderful papers. I'm so glad the teacher finally sent Jackson's home to you. I bet she wanted to post it on her own wall -- her child probably never wrote anything half as good! And Phillip -- working at last. Thank goodness for little boys.
They both have beautiful Catholic school penmanship! Their Uncle Joey could use some tips from them! Jackson is so sweet to write such nice sentiments about Joe. I love watching them interact. They are great together. The story about Stephen thinking Sue got a job is priceless, and now we can add Jacob's "at last" story to that genre. Love the illustration too!
Actually, she didn't send it home. I absconded with it today after their Easter party at school. Jackson saw me walk into his classroom with the papers in hand & he looked at me and asked if I had permission to take them home. His teacher is at a conference all week & I assured him I would write a note on Monday informing her that I took it so that we could give it to Joe for his birthday. We've been hounding her for months to give it to us & she kept telling Jackson that she'd send it home when she had something to put in its place. It has annoyed me for some time now, he wrote it long before Christmas. It's time for her to change that bulletin board!
One more thing. I just noticed that Jackson included Joe's curly hair in his portrait. Very good, Jackson!
It's nice of you to send this on to Joe, but be sure to make a copy for you and Jackson.
Jacob's sentence and illustration are wonderful! Jackson's essay about Joe is wonderful, too. What great writers and artists! I remember the story about Stephen. We had only been in Georgia a couple of months. I was dressed to go to the unemployment office to try and get unemployment benefits. I didn't get them so it was a rough six months before Scott got on with the police department and another year and a half before I got a teaching job.
