Brianne and her college roommates came in town this past weekend for the Jazz Fest. We had a great time on Saturday- beautiful weather, good food, and good music. Katie, Kevin, David, Christina, Phil, and I opted for Rod Stewart. Brianne and her friends opted for Norah Jones. After they woke up from her snooze fest they decided to go see something a little more upbeat. They went to see Ludacris and loved it. My sister and Joey and I took the girls out to party on Bourbon street that night. It was a fun night but we got in very late and I'm exhausted! Yesterday Joey and I hosted a crawfish boil for the family. Elizabeth and Scott took the girls to the French Quarter early in the day and then brought them to our house for crawfish. After the crawfish boil everybody went for the requisite snoball- ice cream with condensed milk for me! It was a very full weekend and the girls are topping it off with a trip to Cafe du Monde on their way out this morning. We enjoyed having them here. Joey loves playing tour guide and entertainment planner. He was trying to convince them to go to a school fair last night to hear some live music. They were not interested at all and neither was I, but he would have gone in an instant. Once he's awake and out of bed Joey has boundless energy, but getting up for work this morning... well let's just say his alarm clock took a beating!

Great pics, Angela. Looks like a great time. Not wild about JazzFest but wish we could have made the boil.
Wonderful pictures. And look at the beautiful smiles on everyone's faces. Lovely.
I believe that should read, "everyone's face." Sorry that slipped past me.
Nice Pictures Angela! Rob, I can't see how you love the French Quarter Fest and not Jazz Fest! I just don't get it! I am the exact opposite, not wild about the FQF.
Kevin and I will be doing the Fest again next Sun. We will see Steely Dan and Taj Mahal, plus whoever else that catches our fancy. Last weekend I had, soft chicken taco, seafood enchiladas, fish ferdinand, stuffed mushrooms and that's all I can remember at the moment.
Next weekend I'm gonna get all of my faves, Crayfish beignets, crayfish bread, bread pudding with white chocolate sauce, and anything else that sounds good!
For those of you who are reading this and thinking it sounds like a lot of food, it is, but the serving size is only sample sizes. Not exactly enough for a meal so you gotta get a few things to fill up. We also share with each other and anyone in the group who wants a taste.
I love Jazz Fest!
Well, Katie, JazzFest is hotter, much more expensive, muddier, more crowded, and is at the Fairgrounds. The weather for FQF is usually beautiful and much cooler, considerably less crowded on Friday, and is in the French Quarter. The food is about the same, though. Why do you like JazzFest so much more?
Great pictures! I was wondering who would go and who was playing...now I know. Looks like fun. Now that John is retired, he and I should hop a plane for a long weekend... Crayfish boil looks delish too!
Nancy -- You know we'd love to see you. Maybe not in June, July, or August, but October and November are usually perfect, weather-wise. Also March and April. When did John retire? Just recently, I know, but I can't remember the month -- February? How is it? I bet he's surprised at how easy it is to give up that structured existence, to say nothing of the looooong commute! You, on the other hand, have many years to go because you're so young and pretty.
JazzFest v. FQF: JF has many more bands and a bunch of stages; you can see the stage and stay out of the crowds if you wish; movement to and from all of the stages is not bad, a little crowded in places but you can avoid that. The food lines are long at some tents, but they move fast and the lines aren't cramped because there is a lot of room. It may be a bit warmer than FQF, but there are places you can go to cool off. The tents all have fans blowing and there is a mist tent that's very refreshing.
The FQF is confined to a smaller area; you have to walk blocks, around buildings, crowds, venders, hawkers, mucicians, artists and so forth. The food booths in Jackson square are limited in selections and extremely crowded. Since it was just two wks ago, I don't think it's all that much cooler.
Nancy, you and John are always welcome to come to JazzFest with us, or y'all could come for the French Quarter Fest. It is also very nice, and a wee bit cooler. FQF is the 2nd weekend in April, and JF is always the last weekend of April and first weekend of May. Both are smack dab during Crayfish season, so come on!
I like the FQF and JF for different reasons. I absolutely love Jazz Fest. I put an entry on my blog, www.jupitersgirl217.blogspot.com It's all good; music, food, sunshine, art, eclectic people.
It was nice to see Brianne, and her lovely companions. I didn't know they've never had crawfish before. Joey does the best, IMO. And Christina's corn salsa was a crowd pleaser, as usual. I could make a meal of that stuff.
That's great about John's retirement, Nancy. How fun to be able to spend more leisure time together, and getting things done around the hearth and home, eh? Very good.
That capital "j" might be messing up the link. I didn't know there was still case sensitive addresses. Anyway, my blog is here. Thanks to Mom for pointing that out.
Looks and sounds like it was a fun weekend. Well, except for the seafood I don't eat :) Otherwise a fun time. One of Ashley's friends is going to college at Tulane next year. I keep tellin' him he should get in touch with my cousin's to show him around :). Looks like Brianne and her friends had a blast.
i'm at school right now
