Black Hills of South Dakota

John and I spent last week in the Black Hills of South Dakota---took in all the monuments and several state/national parks. Had beautiful weather with temps in the 70s most every day, sunny and "picture perfect". Now it's back to work for me and John is going to try retirement again.

Lovely pics, Nancy. Sorry it took so long for me to put them up. It was more of a fight than I expected.

I loved all the pictures. Sam and I and Angela and Christina traveled from Minneapolis to Denver to visit Sue one year and we stopped for a visit to Mount Rushmore. Everyone there was waiting for the lights to be turned on, telling us we shouldn't miss it, so we stayed too. I think they were turned on around 10:45. It was stunning and worth the little wait; Sam is not a wait around kind of guy but there were three of us and one of him -- although he WAS the driver. You know what my first thought was when I saw this amazing work of art? Why didn't someone come in and sweep up all that rubble? You don't ever see that in a picture and it just caught me by surprise. I know, silly. Is Crazy Horse finished now? What is the hole through the cliff about? I'm glad you got so much traveling done this year; though it might be hard to settle in for the long haul now.

Nice pictures Nancy. I remember seeing the monument with my parents but I was young so would love to see it again.

Thanks Robbie for getting this on the blog. We had fun. I do think it will be hard to be back in the regular workforce after all the traveling I did this summer. Crazy Horse is still a work in progress, the sculptor died and his wife and 7 of 10 children are continuing his work based on detailed drawings he left behind. They have twice turned down federal assistance, preferring to have it completed by private donations. It will be Years before it's done. He is pointing over"the lands where his people lie" and will be atop a horse.

Great pics. Glad you had a good time and good weather. Talk to ya soon. Carol

You two sure get around? How fun!

Love the pictures and now have put a visit to Mt. Rushmore on my wish list. That's interesting about Crazy Horse's monument. I'll have to re-read his bio. I read it when I was a kid at OLPH. I exhausted the school library of biographies that had Native American stories in them. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Great pix Nanc. You guys are so cute in your matching outfits.

Janice-- Aren't you the observant girl! I had to go back and study the picture because I hadn't noticed the twinnies. Nancy will have to tell us if it was by design or by chance.
