November 2007 Archives

Last week Nicole performed in Buffalo High School's ™ version of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat¯. She was a dancer and also played Jacob's wife, mother of Joseph. She had an absolute blast dancing (she just wanted some part in the musical). She's had only minimal dance lessons (yes, another thing I should have made¯ her do…guess™ l'll never get Mom of the year), but loves to dance so I was happy that she made the cut. Kyoko helped with the set; making the pyramid and then with the stage crew. It was a good opportunity for her to meet some new people and have something outside of school to do. I tried to take some pictures but with all the different lighting, they didn't really turn out all that great. As you can see it was a big production and it was very well attended. Nicole said things went well but that she (and others) missed Ashley in the costume room.

Jackson got MVP at his tournament game today. This is a picture of him with his MVP trophy. He was so excited! And he scored the only touchdown for his team! The referees of the tournament choose an MVP player from each team, win or lose. He played quarterback this season & every once in a while they'd let him run the ball. He loved it when they did. He also played defense and says he prefers that to quarterback, it's not as much pressure. It was very fun watching him play. Last year was his first year playing and he rarely got on the field, but this year he somehow got one of the best positions & so he never left the field. I'm glad it's finally over. Football is a long season & it's a huge commitment, practices often ran two hours or more. I don't know who's going to have a harder time fitting their big head on their pillow tonight, Jackson or Phil! The boys school fair is this weekend also so we've been there all weekend, in between going to the playground. The boys and I worked a booth today for the cub scouts and I'll work a booth tomorrow for Jackson's class. Every family is expected to put in three hours of work for the fair, many put in much more than that. We bought them POP bracelets and for the first time this year, just let them run around with friends while we listened to the band. That was the life! Usually, we follow the boys around from ride to ride and don't even get to hear the music. There's something to be said about children getting older!!

1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The Stewardess looks at him and says, “I’m sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger.”

2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says, “Dam!”

3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft . Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can’t have your kayak and heat it, too.

4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says, “I’ve lost my electron.” The other says, “Are you sure?” The first replies “Yes, I’m positive.”

5. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root canal? His goal: transcend dental medication.

6. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse . But why?”, they asked, as they moved off. “Because,” he said, “I can’t stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer.”

7. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named “Ahmal”. The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him “Juan”. Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal . Her husband responds, “They’re twins! If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Ahmal.”

8. A group of friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close . They ignored him. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to “persuade” them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he’d be back if they didn’t close up shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that only Hugh can prevent florist friars.

9. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and, with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him (oh, man, this is so bad, it’s good) a super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

10. And finally, there was the person who posted these ten puns on his weblog, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make his visitors laugh. No pun in ten did.

Halloween 2007

We had a great time at Elizabeth's house last night. She had her annual Halloween party followed by trick-or-treating in her neighborhood. The cousins all enjoyed each other's company. Samuel and Polina trick or treated together while Mary Catherine and Julia and their friends took Joe and Jackson around. The younger children were with the older children to give them credibility as they did their own trick-or-treating. After receiving candy from the second house on our trek, Samuel exclaimed, "Me wuv twick-or-tweat!" Whenever he was given a choice of candy to take, he always went for the suckers despite my encouraging him to go for the chocolate. It was a fun night with great weather!
