Christmas 2007

Joey and I hosted Christmas this year for the first time. We were happy to do it because we finally have enough space in our new house to accommodate our large family. It went very well, however, we would have liked to have our countertops in place, and our sink and dishwasher as well. Some wonderful men in our family washed the dishes in the laundry room, which is the "kitchen" sink I've been using since we moved in. I was hoping to have my countertops before Christmas since that is what we were promised, but now I'm hoping they are in before my Bonco party on Saturday night. It's not looking very good though because we haven't heard from the guy yet and tomorrow is Friday. Joey put down some fabulous temporary countertops (plywood) so we would have room to put things down. So glad he did because the countertops were packed, which you can see in the picture. The kids all had fun running around and the adults were able to sit all together for dinner and visiting. The evening was merry despite the kitchen limitations. Hope yours was too!

Yesterday the babies and I drove with Joey to his hunting camp. Samuel begged Joey to stay home and so Joey couldn't resist taking him with him. He's wanted to for a while now but I have been putting him off. Luke and I went also but we stayed back at the camp while they went for a hunt. Joey said he was just perfect. He sat on Joey's lap for about 45 minutes and looked out in one direction for deer while Joey looked in the opposite direction. He was quiet the whole time and would whisper whenever he would talk. Joey had brought some books for him so he looked at those for a little while too. Of course, he loved riding on the 4 wheeler. The last picture is of Samuel and Joey back at the camp with the other guys looking at pictures of deer on the computer. The guys all put out motion sensitive deer cameras in the woods that capture pictures and video of animals that come in its range. Then they sit and look at all the deer that they don't get to see when they are actually sitting in their stands. Nobody got anything while we were there. All those fancy toys and gadgets and all their meticulous planning and preparing and yet the deer still outsmart them.

Nice pics. We had a great time. Sorry we left one out, though. We took care of it last night.

Loved the pictures of the new house. The kitchen is huge! It seems like a nice house, but the hunting club is a little nice too! What happened to ruffing it? Cable TV, internet, heating? When I go hunting, I prefer to be one with nature - sleep on the ground and hope to find a soft rock to lay my head on. You know, something like that.

Loved your writing, Angela. I agree with Stephen that the camp does look pretty fine. The pictures were all good, especially the sisters. It was a lovely day and even though the kitchen was slightly inconvenient, it didn't hinder the fellows -- those good and excellent men -- in getting the dishes washed and dried and put away.

It was a wonderful evening. Thank y'all so much for hosting despite not having everything in order in your kitchen. The space was grand, and the organization was efficient with names at place settings. Aaron was happy to be seated at the grown up table. He remarked about it on the way home.

The Kajun Kringle I brought home was delicious, Angela. Thanks for that too.

Happy New Year, Everybody.
